Position Title: ESOL Teacher, Adult Education, YMCA International Learning Center (ILC) Downtown Boston
Position Type: Full-time, hourly
The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in TESOL, Education, or related field
Minimum of 3+ years of ESOL teaching experience with demonstrated history of success
Familiarity with DESE policies and requirements
Ability to identify a student’s language level
Strong supervisory, organizational, and communication skills
Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
BEST Plus 2.0 and/or TABE CLAS-E certification
Key Responsibilities Teaching responsibilities include
Teach 2 ESOL classes and 1 conversation class to adults of diverse linguistic, cultural, religious, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
Flexibility to teach courses online, in person or in a blended model according to program needs.
Prepare and deliver engaging, learner-centered lessons both online and in person.
Collaborate with other teachers and program director on curriculum development and implementation.
Develop and submit weekly lesson plans utilizing the ILC’s scope and sequence curriculum in alignment with MA English Language Proficiency Standards.
Incorporate digital literacy skills regularly into class content and coursework using authentic activities.
Present clear objectives and agendas to students for each class and unit of curriculum.
Conduct formative and summative assessments at regularly scheduled intervals to evaluate progress
Incorporate learner goals into coursework review and track goals and achievements with students, maintain student portfolios.
Collaborate with Adult Education Advisors to ensure that all students are progressing.
Select and adapt materials for virtual class using learning management system (LMS), Google Classroom
Integrate evidence-based teaching practices in alignment with Massachusetts Professional Standards for Teachers of Adult Speakers of Other Languages 2021
Communicate classroom/student issues to Program Directors in a timely manner.
Administrative responsibilities include:
Maintain timely and accurate documentation of lesson plans, attendance, and student progress.
Submit professional development plan and complete 12+ hours of approved professional development.
Actively participate in development and implementation of annual Continuous Improvement plan
Participate in monthly staff meetings.
Attend teachers’ meetings and teacher development training sessions.
Assist with DESE intake, Best Plus and TABE CLAS-E assessment, and orientation sessions.
