Job Summary:
The Employer Relations Coordinator at UMGC Career Services works to establish and maintain strong relationships with employers to enhance internship, experiential learning, and career launch opportunities for UMGC students and alumni.
This position involves coordinating employer outreach activities, managing recruitment events, and fostering relationships with employers across various industries. The Employer Relations Coordinator serves as a liaison between employers and UMGC, facilitating connections that contribute to the professional success of our students and alumni.
Oversee the logistical operations of onboarding employers for career services virtual and in-person events and access to UMGC job boards to include employer engagement. Provide administrative oversight of employer-related modules on Handshake and CareerQuest.
Participate in advising and career development of students; recruitment and retention of employers; securing experiential learning and career launch opportunities; and developing new InternPLUS pathways to support career readiness of the adult learner population. Provide innovative planning, coordination, and evaluation of employer support services, including but not limited to employer engagement, InternPLUS programming, and employer development.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Employer Relations:
* Develop and maintain relationships with employers, cultivating partnerships to support internships, cooperative education, and employment opportunities for UMGC students and alumni.
* Engages and collaborates with faculty and Corporate Learning Solutions to onboard employers
* Conduct proactive employer outreach and engagement to expand the network of employers and enhance job placement opportunities for students.
* Coordinate recruitment events such as career fairs, information sessions, on-campus interviews, and networking events, ensuring seamless execution and positive experiences for both employers and students.
* Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other career services team members to identify industry trends, job market demands, and employer needs, aligning employer relations strategies accordingly.
* Actively seek and secure internships, part-time jobs, and full-time employment opportunities for UMGC students and alumni, leveraging relationships with employers and industry professionals.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of employer interactions, job postings, and student placements using appropriate career services software systems.
* Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to promote employer events, job postings, and other career-related resources through various channels, including social media, newsletters, and online platforms.
* Stay abreast of industry trends, employer demands, and labor market conditions to provide relevant information and insights to students, faculty, and staff.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of employer relations initiatives, tracking key performance indicators and making recommendations for continuous improvement.
Program Management:
* Promotes InternPLUS through establishing and maintaining connections with relevant campus constituencies, alumni, and employers to provide experiential learning pathways and career launch opportunities for students and alumni.
* Contributes to the effort to initiate, maintain, and grow relationships with employers and organizations that support InternPLUS initiatives
* Identify, educate, and cultivate relationships with industries, organizations, non-profits, government, and business sectors.
* Management of InternPLUS content and employer communications, including a comprehensive strategic plan, implementation of marketing and outreach including a quarterly newsletter.
* Assists in various InternPLUS programming implementation and development efforts as needed to include student recruiting, advising, tracking and assessment.
* Leverage current and new industry partnerships to map recruiting and InternPLUS opportunities.
* Act as the primary point of contact for employers utilizing Handshake and CareerQuest, providing guidance on best practices, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring smooth navigation of platforms.
* Plan and oversee recruitment events, such as career fairs, information sessions, on-campus interviews, and networking events, leveraging Handshake's features to streamline event registration, promotion, and communication.
* Other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree
* Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in advising, coaching, teaching, training, workforce development, recruiting, human resources, talent development, career services or other in a related academic setting
* Experience with university career management platforms such as PeopleGrove or Handshake
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Actively promotes career services initiatives and ensures they are incorporated into daily work activities.
* Maintains a positive and active relationship with employers and participates in business and community-development events such as career fairs and conferences.
* Stays current on changing workforce and career information including salaries, training requirements, job prospects, industry trends, and best practices
* Strong knowledge of recruitment practices, employer engagement strategies, and industry trends.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with employers, students, and colleagues.
* Demonstrated ability to coordinate and execute large-scale events and initiatives.
* Proficiency in using Handshake or similar career services software systems for employer management, event planning, and job posting management.
* Familiarity with social media platforms and online networking tools for professional purposes.
* Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Knowledge of career development theories, job search strategies, and resume/cover letter writing best practices.
