Position Summary:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
The Health Equity Teen Leader will lead the Health Equity program at their respective YMCA location. They will lead the program in a way that fosters connections through various activities and shared interests, empowers teens to serve as leaders in their community, and raises awareness to teen-lead health equity issues.
What is the Health Equity program?
The Health Equity program equips youth ambassadors with knowledge of health equity and community engagement. Youth ambassadors use that knowledge to examine various health equity topics, evaluate their impact on the communities they work in, and ultimately educate community members about what they have learned.
Youth ambassadors explore health equity topics based on their interests and skills, and all youth ambassadors will learn about the Covid-19 pandemic, including where to get vaccinated, how to stay healthy during the pandemic, and helping to provide educational information about COVID-19.
Key Functions/Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee the Health Equity program for teens at the YMCA. Implement weekly curriculum about health equity and COVID-19. Provide direct service instruction weekly that empowers youth to develop their own projects and programs related to health equity.
Recruit and hire diverse youth ambassadors across multiple dimensions of diversity. Assist with onboarding paperwork and processes.
Train and develop youth ambassadors to meet program goals and quality measures. Utilize strategies to motivate, empower staff, and achieve key objectives.
Support youth ambassadors in developing and executing projects, programs, campaigns, communication materials, events, etc, that inform community members about key health equity information, including influenza and COVID vaccine information.
Manage youth employees by providing regular feedback and evaluation. Support youth ambassador development by assessing each youth employee's interests, skills, and career goals and utilizing program tasks to help develop them.
Manage youth schedules, attendance, and location specific program budgets. Secure and schedule facilities for program activities. Communicate to youth in a timely manner about their schedules and any YMCA payroll updates.
Work with other branch departments on health equity programs. Identify areas for collaboration between youth ambassadors and YMCA department
Create a safe and welcoming environment for teens to learn, grow, and develop as health equity youth ambassadors.
Education/Experience:
Experience working with teens preferred
Work experience, education experience, or demonstrated interest in health equity, public health, healthcare, human services, or community engagement preferred
Must be over 18 years of age
Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.

· Ability to interact with members and staff physically and verbally.
· At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs.
Required Training/Certifications:
· CPR/AED and First Aid certifications. YMCA of Greater Boston can provide certification
· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
· Ability to be flexible to work evenings and weekends.
