The Space Development Agency (SDA) was established in 2019 by theDepartment of Defense to define and monitor the Department's futurethreat-driven space architecture and accelerate the development and fieldingof new military space capabilities necessary to ensure our technological andmilitary advantage in space for national defense.
Aerospace support for the SDA resides within the Agile Acquisition Division ofthe Defense Architectures and Integration office of the Defense SystemsGroup, which provides decision support at the enterprise level to seniorAerospace customers across the DoD, as well as helping to connect and aligncustomers and Aerospace across the space enterprise. This Lead SystemsEngineer (Tranche 1) (Senior Project Engineer -SystemsEngineering-Acquisition and Systems Engineering) position supports systemsengineering and integration activities in SDA's Tranche-1 acquisitionprogram, including interfaces with each of the SDA Functional Cellssupporting the entire Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA),which includes Launch support and Ground systems associated with Tranche-1.The selected candidate will provide expertise in spacecraft acquisition anddevelopment, integration and systems engineering, performanceevaluation, acquisition oversight, on-orbit checkout, and operations ofthe PWS
Work ModelThis position will be a hybrid work model and offer partially remote with someonsite work required in in Chantilly, VA, El Segundo, CA, ColoradoSprings, CO, or Huntsville, AL as the business needs allow.
What You'll Be DoingThe selected candidate will support the Tranche-1 Program Director and theChief Engineer.Provide systems engineering and integration support to the Tranche-1 team,helping to ensure SDA's success with development, test, and operationsof the PWSA. Support will include requirements review, leading AerospaceIndependent Review Teams (IRTs), participating in spacecraft designreviews, leading ETG teams in resolving spacecraft hardware and softwareissues, supporting regular contractor program management reviews,participating in spacecraft test document development and execution,planning space-to-ground network operations, and reviewing programmaticschedules and activities for technical compliance.Help to ensure SDA's mission success. Tranche-1 includes Transport(communications) satellites and Tracking (missile tracking)satellites, as well as Ground development and Launch segments, as part ofthe PWSA. Interact daily with SDA senior leaders, FFRDCs, UARCs, andSETA personnel across all the program Cells and divisions in the acquisitionand employment of these spacecraft. Lead various ETG reachback teams for adhoc technical activities in support of Tranche-1 spacecraft and integrationacrSupport the Tranche-1 team by providing spacecraft systems and subsystemsengineering and integration expertise to guide contract execution,performance assessments, and operations planning.Participate in technical design reviews, review technical documentation(provide feedback on program documents (e.g. CONOPS, ICD's, testplans, etc.)), and lead Aerospace Indep ndent Review Teams (IRT).Employ strategic planning principles across the Tranches to enable the resultsof satellite development activities to support the planned launch dates andcompletion of on-orbit check-out phases, leading to full mission operations.Apply lessons learned and commercial best practices and systems engineeringprinciples to rapidly develop, launch, and test the PWSA Tranches.Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may beassigned as needed.
What You Need to be Successful - Senior Project Engineer - SystemsEngineering-Acquisition and Systems EngineeringMinimum Requirements:A Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, orMathematics field12 or more years of increasingly responsible and relatedengineering/scientific experience in satellite and/or satellite subsystemacquisition and development, integration, test, and performance and riskassessmentMultidisciplinary experience including spacecraft and subsystem design anddefinition, as well as space-to-ground communications interfaces, is requiredKnowledge of DoD, IC, Civil, and Commercial missions and technologies isrequiredKnowledge of acquisition processes and a willingness to adjust them to bestsupport SDA's 2-year cycle...
