Purpose:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as the head of financial operations for the company. The role will be responsible for the development and managerial execution of financial strategy for the company and will partner with the company president and the operational leadership team in order to execute operational strategies. The CFO will serve as a key player in the mission to lead organizational development and change utilizing top down management strategy. The CFO will drive the company’s financial performance through financial and cost reporting analysis and will effectively ensure accounting compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements for financial and tax reporting.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the development of finance, accounting and purchasing functions
Supervise a team of direct reports in finance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
Drive initiatives and continually improve all systems and processes by effectively designing, implementing and monitoring of internal controls
Manage corporate budgeting process through effective communications and by partnering with company management to align department objectives with long term company goals
Responsible for analyzing and negotiating terms on all borrowings and managing cash, lines of credit and working capital accounts to optimize cash flow
Design, implement, prepare and present both internal and external financial reports as necessary
Prepare other ad hoc reports and special projects as requested by the President
Serve as a strategic partner in the organization by participating in the development of company business plans and planning the short and long range financial objectives of the organization
Establishing/monitor/retool internal control policies and procedures
Must be able to drive initiatives and continually improve all systems and processes
Manages annual external financial audits, Federal and State tax filings, and regulatory financial reporting
Perform and assume other duties and responsibilities as may be required at the direction of the President
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Must possess thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local tax requirements, financial record keeping, and company benefit/retirement plan oversight
Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with key team members throughout the organization
Execution of multiple initiatives on time with minimal oversight including financial reporting packages, budgets and updated forecasts.
Strong software skills with MS Office, MS Word, MS Excel as well as an exceptional understanding of accounting software processes is required
Ability to effectively communicate concisely and clearly in both verbal and in written form
Ability to travel as required
Experience :
10+ years of experience directing an organization’s accounting and financial functions, preferably in the commercial construction industry operating as a closely held entity
5+ years of construction finance experience required
5+ years of Work In Progress (WIP) experience required
5+ years of Cost Based Accounting experience required
Candidates with previous CFO experience managing multiple direct reports preferred
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or equivalent is required with a strong preference for an MBA degree
Licenses or Certifications:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification required
Physical Requirements:
Ability to be physically seated for long periods of time in a standard issue desk chair
Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week including weekend assignments when required
Ability to visually tolerate prolonged exposure to computer screens, mobile device (phones, tablets, etc.) screens
Ability to read documents and materials in hard and soft copy form (either naturally or with corrective lenses)
Ability to lift and carry up to and including 15 lb. objects as required
Travel:
Travel required on an is needed basis
