General Summary

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Philanthropy Manager is responsible for maintaining the current portfolio of donors. They will also lead the plan to identify, cultivate, secure, and diversify funding sources. They will cultivate relationships with donors and oversee all fundraising activities in collaboration with the Board of Directors, Philanthropy Committee, and core leadership to ensure the organization's financial stability and growth. This position will be our inaugural full-time philanthropy leadership position. They will build upon the work of our Philanthropy Consultant. The position offers a hybrid work environment and flexible working hours.

Essential Job Functions

Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive philanthropy program encompassing annual campaigns, planned giving, and major gifts.

Develop and execute strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and corporate donors, with a focus on increasing retention and upgrading donors.

Collaborate with the Philanthropy Committee to implement goals and adjust the philanthropy action plan.

Solicit and cultivate relationships with current and prospective corporate sponsors, ensuring effective stewardship and solicitation efforts.

Oversee all aspects of donor database management, including gift entry, reporting, cultivation, and prospect research.

Coordinate the production of fundraising materials, including donor and corporate proposals.

Provide leadership and support to the Executive Director and management on fundraising efforts.

Collaborate with the Executive Director and leadership team to ensure alignment of fundraising efforts with the organization's strategic plan,mission, and values.

Supervision Roles

Supervise and mentor our Philanthropy Apprentice to ensure CRM data is current and oversee their exposure to philanthropic professional development.

Work closely with our Arts Administration Fellow on grant tracking and eligibility.

Meet and plan with our two Marketing Apprentices on community engagement opportunities, networking, and fair event planning logistics. Work closely with our Marketing Apprentices to implement a corporate giving plan.

Advise the Executive Director on a plan to adjust and grow the Philanthropy team to achieve philanthropic goals.

Key Roles

Work with the Executive Director and leadership team to engage the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and volunteers in philanthropy planning and implementation.

Supervision and department oversight of the Philanthropy Team in collaboration with the Executive Director.

Review and implement the approved philanthropy plan while recommending areas for adjustments.

Project Manage the donor database to ensure each donor is assigned to core staff for monthly engagement.

Design and implement a recurring giving program.

Develop and implement a plan to cultivate, solicit, and steward patron ticket buyers to donors based on buying patterns and attendance.

Steward individual and corporate donors with an aim to increase support for legacy giving.

Oversee fundraising events through our Philanthropy Committee from planning stages to fulfillment. This includes securing corporate sponsorships, encouraging donor attendance, and assisting with messaging.

Develop resource information (flyers, brochures, etc.) to foster a culture of philanthropy, increase awareness, and increase fundraising activities with the Board of Directors.

Work with the Executive Director on planning the annual list of Board networking events, conferences, and annual retreat.

Assist with setting philanthropy goals for the budget annually, while monitoring and adjusting periodically.

Manage the portfolio of donors by ensuring that every donor is in a portfolio of a board, team and/or Development Manager.

Develop cooperative relationships within the community to enhance fundraising opportunities.

Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve fundraising strategies and performance.

Develop and deliver training for non-philanthropy personnel and volunteers to staff the philanthropy table at events.

Performance Metrics

Achieve annual organizational resource development goals.

Conduct a minimum number of donor visits per month.

Participate in major gift asks

Prepare a monthly dashboard/report to track fundraising progress and include in board packet

Increase donor retention

Additional Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Executive Director to ensure organizational vision and strategic plan alignment with fundraising efforts.

Attend events in the afternoon or evenings as they are scheduled. This can be delegated after an initial period of integration and recognition among our patrons and donors. There will be occasional travel for meetings with donors and prospective donors..

Knowledge & Skills

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; CFRE preferred.

Minimum of five years of nonprofit development experience with a successful track record in individual, foundation, and corporate campaigns.

Superior communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and donor software.

Knowledge of accounting principles related to fundraising.

Valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance approval.

Physical ability to perform job duties, including varying schedules and occasional long working hours.
