Supervisor: Head of School
Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:45pm Duration: 12 months
Salary: Is commensurate with the candidate's years of relevant experience.
Description: The Director of Special Education is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the IEP process and serving as the point person on staff regarding Special Education practices and procedures. Additionally the Director of Special Education supervises staff working with Special Education students, including observation and evaluation processes. The Director of Special Education is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Serve as a member of the School Instructional Leadership Leadership team
Communicating current situation of SpEd, needs of department, and providing big picture insight of impact of decisions on Special Education
Manage overall yearly calendar of special education students
Coordinate and complete initial and re-evaluation process for all referrals and IEP students
Oversee the completion of annual process for both IEP and 504 students
Manage lead teaching SpEd staff in writing 504/IEPs for caseloads of students- annuals
Oversee completion of progress reports for all IEP students
Manage teaching staff to write and review progress reports
Complete observations, feedback and review cycles with SpEd staff
K1-12 Special Education Teachers
Paraprofessional (K1-9)
Occupational Therapist and Speech and Language Pathologist
Multi Language Learner Teachers
Collaborate with coaching team on the review cycle of 5-12 SpEd staff
5-12 SpEd Teachers- content based supervisors
Collaborate with coaches for review process
Run Department Meetings monthly and run/provide professional development as needed
Department meetings to communicate due dates, department updates, etc.
Professional Development opportunities responsive to needs on the ground and desire of the team’s learning
Use funding to offer additional professional development to team and full staff re: special education practices
Oversee the testing accommodations process managed by Special Education teachers
Ensure accuracy of data entered
Support as needed
Coordinate transition process for students grades 7-12
In conjunction with Special Ed Teachers 7-12
Using partner support and collaboration with MCR, DDS Office, etc.
Special Education Parent Council
Plan and coordinate SPEd PAC monthly meetings.
Additional duties that may be assigned.
