This job supports the efforts of physician Research Principal Investigators in developing and submitting proposals and grant applications in biomedical research to federal and non-federal funding agencies. Under general supervision from research leadership, reviews appropriate scientific and medical literature and writing of the research grant proposal, with assistance of the Principal Investigator as necessary. Coordinates with the Office of Sponsored Programs staff to facilitate other aspects of the grant application process including identification of public and private funding opportunities, communication with funding agencies, dissemination of relevant information to Principal Investigators, and completion of all necessary forms and submission of the application. Interacts with researchers and clinicians in a variety of fields.

Education

Required - Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, DO).

Preferred - For PhD, area of study should be in a health related field.

Work Experience

Required - 3 years of relevant professional level experience.

Proven experience writing and facilitating federal, foundation and/or industry grant funding.

Preferred - 1 years of post-doctoral training in biomedical research.

Certifications

Required - N/A

Preferred - Nationally Recognized Grant Writing Certification.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Broad-based knowledge of funding sources such as federal agencies and pharmaceutical companies that support biomedical research.

High level technical writing skills including content and grammar skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.

Proficiency in operating a personal computer, standard software applications and basic statistical skills.

Strong organizational and prioritization skills and ability to be self-directed, work independently under strict deadlines, and handle diverse responsibilities and multiple projects at one time.

Familiarity with medical terminology.

Ability to plan and manage the utilization of various resources and deal diplomatically with all staff, faculty and others.

Ability to travel within the state of Louisiana as well as attend national meetings at various locations in the country.

Job Duties

Facilitates the development and writing of federal, foundation and/or industry research grant applications in collaboration with physicians and scientists.

Fosters collaborative research between researchers and clinicians of multi-disciplinary fields inside and outside the institution.

Works alongside the Office of Sponsored Programs staff in seeking, managing and administering grants.

Develops education and training in grant procurement and writing for the organization and partner staff.

Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Performs other related duties as required.
