CorpsAfrica has steadily expanded operations from Morocco to Senegal, Malawi, Rwanda, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, The Gambia, and Uganda over the last decade. Having successfully proven the power and effectiveness of the model, CorpsAfrica has begun to receive significant funding from large donors. As we reach a point of significant inflection leading to future expansion, we seek to add motivated, capable, and highly effective staff to our team.

Overview of the Position:

CorpsAfrica is looking for a mission-focused, strategic self-starter to serve as the organization’s Director of People and Culture. A new role, the successful candidate will oversee all aspects of HR, including employee relations, recruitment and onboarding, compensation and benefits, performance management, employment law compliance, staff retention, and more. This position requires a dynamic and motivated individual to support more than 130 employees (and growing) across Africa and the US. The team currently includes two direct reports who will support the many facets of human resources.

CLASSIFICATION : Full-time, exempt

SALARY AND BENEFITS : The compensation range for this position is $120,000-$130,000 for US-based employees. For applicants based outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. Compensation is commensurate with experience and will vary depending on the hired candidate’s country of residence, in accordance with local laws and regulations. CorpsAfrica offers paid time off, pension/retirement, health, and other benefits commensurate with similar level CorpsAfrica employees in the country of employment.

LOCATION : CorpsAfrica office in one of the following countries: Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, Uganda, or the United States.

REPORTS TO : Chief Operating Officer

Specific responsibilities:

Builds, leads, and manages a growing HR team that oversees all aspects of HR and the employee life cycle.

Fosters and leads a CorpsAfrica culture that is inclusive, responsive, respectful, and empathetic.

In collaboration with senior leadership, regularly reviews and forecasts staffing needs and ensures the organization has the right people and structures in place.

Conducts regular compensation and benefits studies and advises senior leadership on recommended changes to ensure CorpsAfrica remains a competitive and desirable employer.

Ensures employee handbooks are current and reflect all local laws and organizational policies.

Communicate regularly with senior leadership and Country Directors about policies and other HR matters that are relevant to them.

Supports Recruitment Specialist with recruitment, including collaboration on improvements and implementing best practices.

Supports HR Manager with onboarding and offboarding of employees.

In collaboration with senior leadership and Country Directors, develops programs and incentives for employee retention, health and well-being, professional development/training, and work/life balance.

Develops curriculum for and leads new employee orientations and periodic employee training on relevant topics throughout the year.

Leads annual performance review program across the organization.

Supports professional development and training programs for employees to ensure ongoing and multiple opportunities for continued learning.

Coaches, counsels, and guides managers before executing employee disciplinary actions.

Responds to employee relations issues, including employee complaints.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.

At least seven to ten years of relevant and increasingly responsible experience, including experience managing human resources for an organization with multiple office locations, ideally in Africa.

Demonstrated experience building and leading teams.

Takes initiative and is a self-starter.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer proficiency.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

A hands-on management style and the ability to address and solve problems as they arise.

Diplomatic and of the highest integrity; possess sound judgment and can hold confidential matters in confidence.

Fluency in English is required; fluency in French would be a big plus.
