Direct Hire Full-Time Role

Salary Range: $120,000 - $170,000 per year

Location: Pleasanton, CA - Onsite Role

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated NGS Assay Development Scientist to join a stealth-mode biotech startup! The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Genomics or a related field and 2-5 years or more of industry experience developing DNA-based assays. This role requires hands-on laboratory work at the bench, data analysis skills, and a willingness to be in the lab onsite in Pleasanton.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and optimize DNA-based assays, explicitly focusing on Next Generation Sequencing

Perform hands-on laboratory work and assay development (~50% benchwork)

Help train and manage more junior-level RAs and researchers

Generate and analyze sequencing data using pre-existing NGS data analysis tools

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance research projects and achieve company objectives

Contribute to the development and implementation of new NGS tools, assays, and methodologies

Requirements and Qualifications:

PhD in Genomics or relevant field required (preferably from a top Genomics institute)

2-5+ years of industry experience developing DNA-based assays

Extensive experience in NGS assay development, not just using NGS

Experience publishing papers in a DNA-related domain (ideally as first author)

Strong willingness to work hands-on in the lab for the next 1-2 years

Proficiency in data analysis and familiarity with NGS data analysis tools

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a smaller stealth-mode research environment

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred Skills:

Basic coding skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages are a big plus

Experience or knowledge within Spatial Genomics is a huge plus

Experience managing and mentoring research assistants
