Director of Communications and Marketing .
Harcum College, a progressive, independent, associate degree granting college in Bryn Mawr, PA , has an immediate opening for a Director of Communications and Marketing. The Director is responsible for a comprehensive and strategic communications and marketing program, including digital, social media, and print communications. The director supervises public and media relations, advertising, publications, social media, and the College's website. This position reports to the President of the College and works closely with the Advancement and Enrollment Management teams.
The Director leads through example, vision, and accountability a staff of three full-time professionals focused on: internal communications; the production of the Possibilities, the College Annual Report, Patches, the alumni magazine, and student recruitment materials; the College Lecture Series, managing the College's branding and style guide; College website and social media; electronic communication content and distribution; photography; image archive storage and retrieval; sports information; media content and media relations; news identification across all divisions of the College; and news dissemination.
Responsibilities :
Develops an annual communications and marketing plan with proposed timelines, costs, and measurements to ensure effectiveness, sound fiscal management, and productive staff engagement.
Executes creative, proactive strategies to promote the College's vision and priorities through all media: electronic, publications, events, to build awareness of and engagement with the College.
Creates a strategic marketing program that maximizes demand for the College's degree programs.
Leads overall brand identity strategy for the College, manages the College style guide.
Directs market research activities to keep abreast of changing demographics and other relevant issues in order to evaluate marketing/communication activities and emerging issues.
Develops and maintains strong, working relationships with College Program Directors, providing strategic direction and regular two-way communications pertaining to their programs; keeps Directors informed of College marketing priorities and how they impact their programs.
Directs and contributes to the writing, editing, and design of all communication and marketing materials; oversees production from draft creation, proofing, and distribution of final product.
Supports the College and has a positive visible presence on campus and at College and community events
Serves as a member of the College's crisis management team.
Forges close and positive relationships with the local community and advises others on areas of concern or partnership requiring institutional attention and response.
Develops a media relations plan. Identifies helpful media and public relations contacts across the region, state and country and proactively cultivates relationships that can be mutually beneficial. Serves as the College's primary media contact.
Communicates regularly with leadership of the Board of Trustees Enrollment Management Committee on issues of importance and concern related to communications and public affairs and seeks their input as appropriate. Conveys confidence and professionalism.
Works with the Athletic Department’s Sports Information representative to promote the College’s athletic pograms including executing media days and ensuring the College website is current with news and results.
Qualifications/Skills: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience.
Strong writing and editing skills; writing samples and a portfolio of work will be requested.
Experience working on capital campaigns on other fund raising activities within an educational institution.
Experienced in social media and all other forms of electronic media, digital marketing, new and innovative media campaigns.
Attention to details and ability to meet deadlines.
Exemplary interpersonal and presentation skills, with an ability to deal effectively with internal and external "clients" and constituents.
Demonstrated success in hiring, mentoring, and developing a professional staff; creating a staff culture of proactivity, engagement and consistent follow-up.
Knowledge of public information and community relations methodologies.
Ability to handle conflict and resolve problems efficiently and effectively; provide counsel to College leaders to handle, mitigate or diffuse crisis situations.
A strong overall business acumen and sound leadership and strategic planning skills, supplemented by an ability to act consultatively and collaboratively with peers in the other areas of the College or volunteer communities.
A positive and highly personable style, a willingness to lead by personal example, and a results-oriented and high-energy approach that forms an effective role model for the people in the Communications function.
ABOUT HARCUM COLLEGE Harcum College is a private independent, coeducational, fully accredited, residential college. The College offers associate degrees in allied health sciences, business and professional studies, and social sciences, as well as certificates and a variety of continuing studies programs.
Founded in 1915 by Edith Hatcher Harcum and Octavius Harcum, it was the first college in Pennsylvania chartered by the state to offer the associate degree. Today Harcum has degree programs on its Bryn Mawr Campus, located about 20 minutes west of Philadelphia, programs online and at Partnership Sites throughout the region, serving approximately 1,000 students.
