Job Description
We are recruiting a Director of Finance for a dynamic organization within the public sector. This is an onsite position located in Sacramento with reserved parking. The Director of Finance will manage three direct reports, be a member of the senior leadership team, and provide financial data and insights for effective decision-making. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong interpersonal skills, a strategic thinker, and a problem solver with demonstrated experience serving as a partner on an executive team.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage and oversee the finance team, including three direct reports.
Provide financial data and insights to the senior leadership team for strategic decision-making.
Ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization.
Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures.
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards.
Collaborate with other departments to support overall organizational goals.
Oversee banking and investment strategies that support the cash flow needs of the organization.
Provide internal auditing services and develop and implement effective and efficient internal procedures.
Ensure that the annual budget is approved in a timely manner and that the Executive team has the opportunity for substantial input into the decision-making process.
Monitor compliance with all laws and regulations governing finances.
Serve as a resource on issues of financial management, budget planning and cost projections as requested.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
MBA, CFA, or other advanced degree/credential preferred.
7 -10 years of progressive experience in accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis, including three-five years of supervisory experience is required.
Excellent analytical and communication skills.
Willing to roll up your sleeves and work alongside your team and provide direction and mentorship to other members of the Finance & Accounting team.
Advanced Excel required; familiarity with accounting systems/software.
Strong financial modeling and forecasting skills.
Strong business acumen, knowledge and command of financial reporting and planning systems and processes, and ability to translate insights into operational action.
Strong execution skills complemented by analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and quality.
Best practices, methods, and principles of general government and fund accounting, including financial statement preparation and methods of financial reporting.
