Position Description
Purpose
The purpose of this role is to ensure the completion of all field projects in accordance with design, specifications, budget, and schedule. This role has primary responsibility for establishing administrative and technical direction and providing oversight management of field projects in assigned area across all TEU markets (i.e., Natural Gas/Oil, and associated sitework). The Area Manager plays a key role in establishing and achieving Construction and corporate objectives, and for maintaining safe and profitable field operations.

Company / Entity:
Contributes to the development of, and implements, plans for future business and professional growth in Construction by staying abreast of and evaluating trends in the industry. Ensures the field operation activities remain focused on long range priorities, customer feedback, and continuously strives to make improvements to day-to-day processes and practices.
Facilitates collaboration across all area offices and builds consistency across construction project management practices and procedures, resources and materials, and company performance. Ensures policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to as well as protect the company’s interests.
Prepares field operations workforce for evolving business needs. Manages staffing and corresponding costs, balancing short and long-term needs for people (skills/manpower). Maximizes performance, accountability, and motivation of workforce while maintaining morale. Models innovative/effective management practices.
Establishes, promotes, and protects Teichert’s values including diversity, teamwork, fair work environment, and respect of others. Maintains a “team” spirit within the business unit. Works and cooperates with other disciplines (across company lines) to ensure maximum and best use of resources.
Promotes and protects the community perception of Teichert.
Technical / Specialty Area:
Aspires to achieve a zero-injury culture through visible support of Teichert’s Injury Prevention and Safety program, the implementation/interpretation of safety programs, and active participation in safety meetings and training sessions. Proactively identifies, and communicates, safety improvements and hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions to maintain a safe, healthy work environment and meet corporate safety standards.
Ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, adhere to commitments made to customers, and meet quality and customer expectations. Plans, directs, and oversees total construction efforts/field operations. Applies knowledge of corporate and industry best practices, processes, standards, and technology to establish construction standards, designs, specifications, budgets, and schedules.
Ensures all employees and contractors are trained on engineering standards, and all on-site personnel comply with project procedures, safety program requirements, and work rules. Provides expertise and guidance on technical and quality standards to planning, scheduling, and engineering functions (i.e., interpretation of drawings, construction methods and equipment, authorizing project personnel transactions, purchase requisitions, field design, change requests).
Directs, coordinates, and/or supervises activities of Project Managers and Project Engineers on assigned construction projects. Develops staff by evaluating performance, providing coaching, training, and mentoring opportunities in order to maximize employee performance and professional growth.
Develops positive working relationships with external customers. Communicates company and project policies, procedures, and standards. Works with Industrial Relations and Field Operations to maintain communication with unions as necessary.
Manages internal administrative organization and documentation, including project logs, files, records, and reports pertaining to construction projects and field operations. May include P/L reporting, safety, training, accidents/incidents, state, and federal regulations, etc.; ensures written and up-to-date construction policies and procedures.

External clients: Owners, developers, private customers, public agencies, state and federal regulatory agencies, union representatives, A/E representatives, worker’s compensation agencies, material suppliers, equipment suppliers, industry peers for networking
Internal clients: VP/Regional Manager, Estimating Manager, General Superintendent, Superintendents, Project Managers, Cost Engineering Manager, Administrative Manager, Contract Administrator, Cost Analysts, Estimators, Project Engineers, Administrative Staff, Materials, and other business units.
Role, Qualifications, & Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, (or related field) or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience
Experience & Industry Expertise:
Minimum of ten years’ experience in construction industry or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience
Minimum eight years’ experience supervising others
Prior experience in Underground/Pipeline projects is desirable
Specific Job Requirements:
Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation
Comply with PHMSA DOT employment requirements
Valid Driver’s License
Current on all company required safety training
Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interest
Good working knowledge of project management and/or estimating software
Thorough knowledge of construction contracts/ law
Thorough knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, personnel issues and EEO
Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, technology, equipment methods, cost control, schedules, etc. and their impact on project activities
Thorough knowledge of company’s Standard Operating Policies and Procedures
Occasional overnight travel
