The Pioneer Valley Symphony is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead our organization into its next chapter of growth and impact. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, Music Director, member musicians, staff, donors, and community partners to advance our mission and ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization. Location: Hybrid. Administrative work may be completed from the Greenfield, MA office and from remotely as duties allow. In-person events occur throughout Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden Counties in Western Massachusetts.
Hours: This is a full time, exempt position, with a flexible schedule to accommodate PVS events outside of regular business hours.
Compensation & PTO: To support equitable hiring practices, the PVS Executive Director salary is set at a nonnegotiable starting rate of $80,000 per year, with 4 weeks of paid time off PLUS the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, and an additional 6 floating holidays. Additional perks include comp tickets to PVS events and free or reduced-cost private and group music instruction at our music school in Greenfield.

Key Responsibilities:
Partner with the PVS Board of Directors to provide strategic leadership and direction to achieve the organization's artistic, educational, and financial goals.
Collaborate with the Artistic Director and Education Programs Director to develop, implement, evaluate, and improve artistic and educational programming that reflects our mission and engages diverse audiences.
Supervise staff (currently 2 FTE and 2 PTE) and encourage a collaborative, proactive, equitable, and transparent work culture.
Contribute to and oversee artistic productions, educational programming, and day-to-day operations (including financial management, fundraising, marketing, and administration).
Cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, and grant-making organizations to secure financial support and partnerships, and with community partners to secure collaborative partnerships.
Develop and implement marketing and audience development strategies to increase visibility, attendance, and engagement.
Lead efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization and the broader community.
Serve as a primary spokesperson and ambassador for the organization, developing and stewarding relationships throughout the region and across sectors to support the PVS’ positioning and goals.
Qualifications:
Experience in both arts administration and nonprofit management is critical.
Proven leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, preferably in a performing arts or cultural organization.
Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and revenue generation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and engage stakeholders at all levels.
Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor cultivation, and relationship management.
Visionary thinker and extraordinary community organizer, with the proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans that drive organizational growth and impact.
Commitment to and track record of actively seeking opportunities for collaboration and community development, leading with an abundance mindset, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
