Job Description
The Transportation Supervisor provides in-house ongoing efforts to establish and improve planning, routing, and
controls which impact quality, service, and driver productivity. This position is also responsible for co-supervising Union Drivers in their daily operations while maintaining compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
* Create load plans based upon orders integrated to a Transportation Management System (TMS) from Edward Don & Company's ERP system (SAP). Ensure load plans meet customer requirements for on-time delivery while meeting low cost objectives.
* Complete daily route editing (master routes & customer data).
* Schedule Drivers based on the daily business needs. Prepare Daily Driver Dispatch Logs.
* Import and export data from SAP for efficient route planning.
* Calibrate and maintain service time formulas (i.e. drive times & service times).
* Work with Operations Management to conduct Safety Meetings & to establish & maintain emergency back-up (contingency) plans to ensure service standards are achieved daily.
* Communicate with sales staff & customer service to ensure proper operational procedures are followed.
* Maintain, review, and analyze performance trends; Makes recommendations based on patterns.
* Review and maintain all required DOT files and logs including, Hours of Service Logs, D.V.I.R.'s, and Driver Trip Sheets.
* Monitor driver check in procedures and follows up with drivers with regard to route compliance, delivery issues, or other concerns.
* Work with management to schedule temporary drivers and rental equipment as needed.
* Generate daily operational reports and fulfills other administrative reporting requirements.
* Keep the Transportation Manager of issues within assigned area of responsibility and escalates issues to appropriate parties as needed.
**Supervisory Duties:**
* Assist in selection, training, counseling and development of direct reports. Conduct driver orientation for new and temporary drivers.
* Plan, schedule, and assign workload as well as monitor work productivity and recommend/ implement changes as needed.
* Conduct periodic meetings with direct reports to keep them informed of current problems, changes and new developments in the department and Company.
* Manage time and attendance of direct reports. Cross train associates to maximize productivity and provide coverage of all functions. Administer all policies and procedures accordingly as set forth by DON.
* Complete performance appraisals within assigned time frames. Coach and counsel direct reports on performance issues. Takes corrective action if needed with managers approval.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
External Qualifications
**Required:** Bachelors Degree with at least 2 years combined experience working in transportation routing, operations, and/or high volume distribution OR High School Diploma or GED plus a minimum of 6 years of applicable related work. The individual will possess proven analytical skills, excellent communication skills, time management skills, advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products (specifically Excel, Word, and Access) and work independently (or collaboratively) to provide superior customer satisfaction to both internal and external customers. Proficient in handling and maintaining system generated routing programs (i.e. Roadshow or similar routing program)
**Preferred:** Experience with routing generation in a fast pace environment, fleet experience or SAP experience.
