The Office of Career Programs and Employer Relations at Dominican University is seeking dynamic and student-focused individuals to join us in the Adjunct Instructor’s pool for the academic school year 2024-2025 and beyond.
A newly revised Core Curriculum will expand career programming to all new undergraduate Dominican University students beginning in the fall of 2024. Currently, one of our four colleges, the Brennan School of Business, has fully implemented this unique career development model while multiple program areas have completed pilot programming.
As we expand career development programming, we are hiring student-centered, culturally competent, and enthusiastic faculty on an adjunct basis for fall 2024 and spring 2025, with a strong need for those with expertise in education and training, health sciences, human services, and STEM.
COURSE INSTRUCTORS NEEDED FOR THE 2024 – 2025 ACADEMIC YEAR:
CV100 Career and Vocation: Launching Your Career
Format: In-person
Course Description: This 100-level course provides a structured opportunity for students to leverage their college experience as the first step in their professional development. Students strategically assess the many opportunities on campus, articulate their goals while they are at Dominican, and connect college to post-graduation. This course offers a balanced approach to learning more about oneself through reflection, through workplace writing, and through doing.
CV200 (previously DCDP200) Career and Vocation: Leveraging Your Strengths Format: In-person and online synchronous
Description: In this 200-level course, students learn and apply Dominican’s S.T.A.R. approach to written and verbal business communication, including interviewing, resume writing, and job search-related communications. They also improve their networking and relationship-building skills. Additionally, students explore their skills, values, and interests to help solidify potential careers and obtain their internships.
Each course consists of 1 credit hour, conducted in a 75-minute session once per week throughout the semester, totaling 15 sessions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver existing course content to align with the instructor’s expertise and course career pathway.
Help students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content, assessing student learning outcomes, and focusing on completion, career practicums (internships), and fulfilling the institution’s goals of 90% of students employed in career-ladder positions (bachelor’s degree required), in graduate school, or doing mission or full-time volunteering within six months of graduation.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of trends and connections in the field(s) of expertise and of DU CV course requirements. • Forge connections between the University and students with your network when appropriate.
Attend orientation as well as virtual or in-person training and faculty feedback sessions.
REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree and five years of work experience in the current field of study will be considered
Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring diverse individuals
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in and a passion for guiding, encouraging, and supporting a diverse student population.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office and other information systems. We will train on our learning management system, Canvas, and our online career board.
