Job descriptionThe Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the efficient management and coordination of road transport requirements and the efficient utilization of its Drivers & Assets in the Tri-State Area.
Major Responsibilities/Duties:Oversee and investigate truck accidents and prepare accident reports.Knowledge of straight trucks, tractor/trailer, CDL trucks, and material handling equipment.Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.Assure all direct reports are properly trained in their job functions including both Sims Private & 3rd Party Vendor Haulers.Manage the safe and efficient transportation of material to and from the site by company requirements.Conduct employee training sessions on subjects such as hazardous material handling, driver safety, employee work rules, quality improvement, and computer usage.Ensure all paperwork and forms required for inbound and outbound shipments are prepared accurately and promptly.Work closely with commercial, yards, and demolition staff and ensure transportation requirements are met in a timely and cost-efficient manner.Meets with and works with appropriate vendors and subcontractors for services and ongoing performance analysis.Continually review all existing company transport assets for best use.Close liaison with operation staff for maximization of labor performance, enhancement, and disciplinary action.Confer with drivers to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment.Monitor and update the system to illustrate scale crossing times and load weight.Negotiate and authorize contracts with equipment and materials suppliers, and monitor contract fulfillment.Prepare management recommendations, such as proposed fee and tariff increases or schedule changes.Perform special projects upon request.Conduct routine ride-a-longs with drivers to strengthen communication and review. SOPs while on the road and at unloading/loading locations. Organize the road testing requirements for newly hired drivers.Responsible for assuring all drivers are starting at their correct times to ensure daily assignments are completed and to reduce idling.Monitoring stop and start time variables across all driver assignments.Establish real trip times for routine runs.Help monitor the safety and compliance of fueling equipment parking areas and all shared spaces.Ensure the OTR Fleet is kept presentable and clean. Work with dispatch on maintaining a cleaning schedule.Back up, cover, or manage the Dispatcher as needed.Attend weekly/bi-weekly/monthly meetings for the Region, present info and issues related to the Region.Work closely with the Transportation Specialist and Directors as needed.Maintain and improve customer service levels by business requirements to ensure internal and external customers are serviced promptly.Meets requirements and provides recommendations for alternate arrangements to the Commercial team as required.
EducationBachelor’s Degree preferred
