Overview :
Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) is one of four refugee resettlement agencies in San Diego County, a Department of Justice Recognized organization, and a core partner of the San Diego Rapid Response Network (Network) - a group of 40+ immigrant rights and social service organizations, attorneys and community leaders who educate, protect, and assist immigrant individuals and families – including refugees and asylum seekers – with legal support and social services. JFS has a large Immigration Services Department (JFS-ISD) where it not only coordinates the legal services for the Network, but also has a large team of lawyers, DOJ accredited representatives, and support staff working on a wide range of services for low-income and vulnerable immigrants in San Diego and Imperial counties. The JFS-ISD team specializes in removal defense, family-based petitions and applications, naturalization, and humanitarian relief. The JFS-ISD team has experience and regularly practices immigration law before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) at the San Diego and Otay Mesa Immigration Courts and Board of Immigration Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and guardianship law before the San Diego Probate Court. JFS-ISD is also the legal service provider which coordinates the Higher Education Legal Services (HELS) program on the 2 CA State Universities – San Diego State and CSU San Marcos, in addition to 9 community colleges in San Diego and Imperial counties.
Position Overview :
This position is dedicated to support Jewish Family Service of San Diego’s commitment to innovation in expanding and supporting lawful pathways. Most recently, JFS embarked on providing support for the Administration’s Safe Mobility Office (SMO) Parole Program. Housed within the Immigration Legal Services Department, part of this position’s role centers on the provision of services to individuals on the SMO Parole pathway, with a primary focus on the management of the various partner organizations. The Program Manager will be a liaison between our U.S. Government, financial, travel, case management, and sponsorship colleagues and partners. The position will assist with building out our communication channels, internal and external meeting preparation, project tracking, data entry, and reporting outcomes. The Program Manager will also support other projects which focus on expansion of lawful pathways, serving as a critical liaison between internal cross-department functions and external partners. This position will report directly to the Supervising Attorney and provide support to the Assistant Director of Immigration Services, as needed. The candidate should have experience and a strong desire to work in a fast paced, team environment and interact with staff and partners in a consistently personable, professional, and helpful manner. This is an active position, working alongside an internal team and several external partners across a rapidly developing program.
The position requires advanced experience with Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook .
Responsibilities :
Serve as the liaison for lawful pathways support between the Immigration Legal Services Department and internal support teams (e.g. marketing, accounting, development) and external partners
Lead external lawful pathway project partner meetings
Provide project wide updates to all partners and internal staff on a weekly basis
Work to develop lawful pathway materials, such as the internal partner communication platform and external, client facing information packets
As needed, support with recoverable loan execution and travel coordination
Support Supervising Attorney and Assistant Director with special projects related to lawful pathway program goals and program expansion
Stay up to date on rapidly changing immigration laws and policies
Comply with data and program reporting requirements, including monitoring partner’s performance and supporting partners in meeting their designated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) each month
Be prepared to step in to assist with the day-to-day tasks to support the team working on the lawful pathway programs. With the constant changes in immigration law and policy, sometimes there is a need to change the way tasks or cases are handled. The ideal candidate is someone that can easily adapt to constant changes
Skills/Experience/Abilities that are a Must-Have:
Ability to prioritize, multi-task and organize in a fast paced and fluid environment
Capability to balance various completing goals and interests, and provide actionable solutions
Proficient in Microsoft software including Excel, Word, and Outlook
Detail oriented and self-directed with strong oral and written communication skills in English
Strong relational skills and a demonstrated cross-cultural understanding and success
Excellent interpersonal skills, including good communication skills, listening skills and attitude
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under pressure
Ability to work both independently and in a group setting
Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
Passion for social justice for immigrants required
Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
