For almost 100 years we’ve been reimagining how to flavor beverages and we’re looking for a Principal Automation and Controls Engineer that will help ensure our Flavor Factory continues to support our growing business and deliver amazing flavor!
We are in search of an experienced Principal Automation and Controls Engineer to focus on the safe and efficient control of our Flavor Factory operations that run our state-of-the-art Flavor Processing, Packaging lines and Warehouse Operations. The Principal Automation and Controls Engineer leads direct reports and provides mentoring to other members of the Engineering team. The Principal Automation and Controls Engineer works collaboratively with our team to lead the development of electrical and control systems from concept to detail design. This role is a trusted partner with key stakeholders in Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, and the IT department to solve both strategic and immediate operational issues.

Automation and Controls Development Leader: The mentorship you’ve provided the Controls Engineers has successfully scaled their skills and abilities to meet the growing technical needs of the business. You have provided automation, controls, instrumentation expertise to a range of team members from Maintenance I&C technicians to Senior level Engineers to support both day-to-day operations and implementation of capital projects. As the demands for new and advancing technology is introduced to the Flavor Factory, you and your team bring the technical and practical expertise needed to support successful implementations.
Technical Operations: The Flavor Factory requires regular trouble shooting for a range of operating system upset conditions created by electrical or automation control issues, and you have supported a wide variety of scenarios. You’ve evaluated a variety of situations to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency and you’ve capably taken it all on. Designing, programming, installing, de-bugging or maintaining plant-based control systems with PLC’s, VFD’s and other electromechanical equipment utilizing distributed control schemes have all been tackled. Your focus on continuous improvements in existing plant software and hardware issues has effectively minimized downtime on equipment. The support you provide to our online system control and data acquisition systems which automates the reporting of our overall equipment effectiveness is critical to our smooth operations. The diligent and sustainable documentation process you’ve executed has supported the changes made by yourself and team and supports business continuity.
Project Manager: As the lead electrical and controls expert for the development of Logistics, Productivity, Process and Packaging focused capital projects, you’ve developed the automation and controls focused scopes and budgets for your projects as well as provided support to the rest of the Engineering team on their capital projects. You have helped to justify the approval of your projects by ensuring the return-on-investment rate meets the financial hurdle requirements. Projects led by you are managed effectively by incorporating stakeholders from design through implementation to ensure a successful startup and handover.

You’ll be successful in this role if you have…. 10+ years of practical experience in ever advancing positions, preferably in Food and Beverage Manufacturing environments.
BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering preferred.
Expertise in automated high-volume processing Food, Beverage, Bioprocessing facilities, or Warehouse Material Handling and Distribution systems.
Experience with Rockwell Automation / Allen Bradley Control Logix / Compact Logix / Micro Logix PLCs and HMI / MES software. Specifically, experience with Allen Bradley RX Logix series PLCs, Allen Bradley HMIs, Factory Talk Services Platform (Studio5000), Servomotors, VFD's (AB, ABB, etc.).
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively within various size groups of people as well as one on one.
