Description: Direct a nationally recognized program of research in the Investigator's area of special expertise by designing and implementing major health related research projects; developing, evaluating, and testing significant innovations in the organization, delivery, and financing of health care; publishing research findings in major scientific and professional journals and books; translating research into practice, leading national and/or local research cooperatives, mentoring the career development of junior investigators, stimulating and guiding the overall development of the Center for Health Research (CHR) as a preeminent research institution; and advising Kaiser Permanente (KP) and local, state and national policy-makers in the Investigator's area of expertise.Essential Responsibilities:Direct, develop, design, lead and obtain funding for an extensive ongoing research program comprising multiple, coordinated research, demonstration, and/or evaluation projects in the Distinguished investigator's area of particular expertise in order to advance knowledge that will improve health and health care delivery. Lead collaborative research programs across multiple institutions. Be recognized as a national/international leader in research specialty area, including Principal Investigator of major research municate research results to other scientists, clinicians, professional groups, the community, and the media.Work with partners in the health care system to improve the health of Kaiser Permanente and/or non-Kaiser Permanente members. This includes providing scientific and health policy leadership in a defined area of expertise deriving from the distinguished investigator's research program; working with policy makers, KP providers and managers, and others in the health care field and related contexts.Provide technical consulting and professional service to KP, assume major responsibility for demonstration projects in the special interest of KP, and serve on relevant KP committees and task forces.Promote a positive science-focused work culture by assisting in the development of Center policy, providing technical services and consultation to other CHR staff by helping to define the CHR's future research agenda, and by maintaining security and confidentiality of research and medical data.Mentor investigators in identifying the key social and health policy issues and derive a research agenda to generate solutions to these challenges.Foster development of collaborations among investigators within and across institutions; stimulate development of new proposals and manuscripts for publication.Guide and shape individual scientific agendas to fit with the overall goals of the Center and help develop research opportunities.Provide service to the professional and scientific community through membership on scientific peer review groups and national policy and advisory boards and/or serve as an editor or member of the editorial board of a scientific peer-reviewed publication; participate in (inter)national collaborative studies; and consult with local, state, and national voluntary and governmental agencies.
