WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Distinguished Engineer, who will be part of a team passionate about building and running the infrastructure that powers Nike. This is a critical senior technical leadership role that will own the transformation of Nike foundational infrastructure (Cloud, Edge, and Network) for the future by delivering next-generation capabilities!

A successful candidate will be a servant leader with deep technical expertise to deliver outstanding agility, availability, resiliency, security, and performance solutions in a cloud, edge, and network infrastructure. Delivering those capabilities through clear communication, collaboration, creativity, strategic thinking, problem-solving, dedication, inclusion, and positivity. The selected candidate for this role will have a consistent track record of driving change and transformation in cloud, edge and network engineering technologies, tools, and processes through metrics-driven, KPI-based methodologies, and an evidence-based continuous improvement approach to best meet business objectives and priorities.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

In this role you will translate business strategies and objectives into strategic technical direction, leading implementations, and have these key responsibilities:

+ Lead strategy, architecture and implementation of innovative cloud, edge, and network solutions that are scalable, resilient, and efficient.

+ Lead feasibility analysis and serve as technical leader for the most sophisticated multi-functional initiatives.

+ Lead the transition of existing infrastructure to cloud and edge environments, ensuring seamless migration and integration.

+ Quickly and deeply diagnose Nike's most difficult issues through Nike's logging platforms.

+ Develop technical roadmaps for cloud and infrastructure technologies, aligning with the strategic goals.

+ Mentor and lead engineers in best practices for cloud architecture, security, and performance.

+ Collaborate with other departments to understand their needs and provide technical solutions that improve their operations.

+ Advise senior management and stakeholders on advanced/emerging technologies and their applications in cloud and infrastructure technology.

+ Work closely with other departments to proactively ensure cloud engineering capabilities are capable of handling emerging and future business requirements.

+ Own architecture decisions and direct technical leadership over engineering teams passionate about delivering enterprise scale systems.

+ Establish best-practice software engineering methodologies for a global, 24x7, high-volume, high-availability, critical production environment, based on metrics-based KPIs.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

This role reports to the VP of Infrastructure Engineering and will connect across all levels of the Infrastructure Engineering Organization. This role partners closely with Enterprise Architecture, the Distinguished Engineering Community, and key partners across Global and Geographies. This role works across public cloud, retail, distribution centers, show rooms, and data centers globally.

WHAT YOU BRING

To make it clear, we're not looking for just anyone! We're looking for someone special, someone who has these experiences and clearly demonstrates these skills:

+ Bachelors' degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience.

+ 15+ years software engineering experience as an individual contributor developing custom software using common system like Java, Python, Rust, and/or JavaScript.

+ 7+ years professional experience with AWS or other major cloud provider.

+ 5+ years in as lead engineering role for a platform depended on by multiple application teams.

+ Deep industry experience in cloud engineering problems around clustering, service design, scalability, resiliency, block and object stores, distributed backend systems, network systems, CDN, DNS, containers, and security protocols.

+ Engineering life-cycle management of software infrastructure.

+ Develop software and infrastructure design and implementation roadmaps to meet the company's operations & infrastructure business goals and metrics for availability, resiliency and performance.

+ Prior experience in working with engineering teams through major technology transitions.
