Summary:
Library Teaching Assistant support allows the library staff to have more focused teaching time with students in the library and with classes. The Library Teaching Assistant performs circulation desk, book processing activities, creates book displays and trains and supervises student worker activities, which facilitate the management of the school library. The Library Teaching Assistant is often the first staff member a student encounters looking for general information and library resources.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications : Familiarity with computers and online applications (including but not limited to Google Drive, email, web searching, online catalog);
Enjoys working with students & teachers;
Ability to process and shelve books;
Ability to work in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment with willingness to learn new skills;
Experience in Follett/Destiny a plus.
Ability to create thematic book displays
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):
Circulation desk management: Check books, Chromebook laptops and other supplies in and out
Manage overdues and obligations - send notices and follow-up
Maintain and report weekly, monthly, yearly statistics to the Librarians
Check students from Directed Study in and out of the Library; follow up with teachers as necessary and enforce library policies
Answer library phone, respond to general questions, redirect as necessary
Training and supervision of student workers
Manage collection: Processing and cataloging of new books
Shelve books, journals, DVDs, etc.
Book repair
General duties: Set up / maintain themed displays inside library and in corridor outside the library
Make IDs
Laminate materials for faculty
Ordering supplies
Manage the copy machine (teach students how to use the machine, maintain paper supplies, etc.)
Maintain supplies for printer (paper, toner), student supply desk (paper, pencils, etc.)
Consistent and on-time attendance is required or supervision and instruction of the students
Responsible for implementing "other job related duties" as needed.
May be expected to provide substitute educator services
May be expected to attend trainings related to position
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job the Library Teaching Assistant is frequently required to kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch. The Library Teaching Assistant is periodically required to stand; while talking and listening. The Library Teaching Assistant is occasionally required to sit; walk; lift; or carry up to 25 pounds.
