POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications Director will be responsible for leading all external communications & marketing activities for NIAC and NIAC action, including press and public relations. This role will drive the organizations' work as it pertains to brand and messaging among the Iranian-American community, Washington policy community, and broader American public, telling the story of our work and priorities through digital media, traditional media, and direct public engagement. This role will report to the Executive Director.

This is a hybrid position (part remote work/part in-person work) and preference will be given to candidates based in the Washington, DC area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communications Strategy

Create and implement NIAC's communications strategy that includes robust digital communications and traditional media plans.

Tell NIAC's story to Iranian Americans, policymakers, media, and the general public

Increase awareness and recognition for NIAC's work, key issues, values and accomplishments

Correct and counter disinformation against the organization and broader community

Press & Media

Develop and execute NIAC's press strategy, including specific strategies for key campaigns and events. Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with reporters and identify opportunities to engage key reporters regarding NIAC's work

Serve as organizational media contact and assist with media placements, including pitching NIAC experts to press for commentary and analysis, securing high-impact placement of articles written by NIAC staff, and securing TV and radio interviews

Draft and edit statements and press releases; build press lists and ensure all appropriate outlets and reporters receive outreach

Monitor and track the media landscape on NIAC's key issue areas

Digital Communications & Marketing Manage member emails, newsletter, website copy, and social media copy

Oversee NIAC's website, including content, branding, presentation, navigation and analytics and NIAC's social media presence

Track, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of NIAC's online engagement campaigns, with the aim of boosting engagement, optimizing lead generation, and revising digital strategy as needed to hit NIAC's annual digital goals

Devise and execute social media strategies for organizational events including galas, fundraisers, social events, conferences, panels, book talks, and more

QUALIFICATIONS: 5+ years of relevant communications experience; campaign or nonprofit experience preferred

Ability to speak, read, and/or write Persian strongly preferred

Experience with media relations and media engagement platforms

Experience with website design and multimedia digital content creation preferred

Strong attention to detail required so that content and assets are error free

Excellent writing and editing skills

Dedication to NIAC/NIAC Action's mission and work

Familiarity with the Iranian-American community and political landscape of issues NIAC/NIAC Action work on
