Position Summary:
We are looking for a Director of Engineering who has experience with the design, fabrication, testing, and operation of spaceflight hardware. This director will lead departments across all engineering disciplines including Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Structural/Thermal), Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, and Test Engineering.
The position is full-time with location options in: Greenbelt, MD area, or DC Metro Area or Boston, MA, and is available to be filled immediately.
Responsibilities:
Plan and direct all aspects of engineering standards, policies, objectives, and initiatives
Develop and manage the department’s budget for training, execution, and growth
Mentor and guide engineers' career progression
Strong collaboration with and technical support for Finance, Operations, Mission Assurance, Business Development, Programs and Missions.
Ownership for technical risk content of program Risk Register (including mitigation and elevation strategy)
Build strategies that enable scaling of the business
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or similar.
18+ years of relevant work experience.
5+ years in Senior Management with an engineering organization of 30+ employees
10+ years of recent experience with spaceflight hardware
Extensive expertise in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Test Engineering
Previous experience in DoD and/or NASA programs
Experience with Environmental Testing per GEVS GSFC-STD-7000 or SMC-S-016
Experienced with gate review processes (SRR, PDR, CDR), providing technical content, oversight, and determining gate pass / fail criteria.
Eligibility and ability to obtain a government security clearance
Preferred Qualifications 25+ years of relevant work experience with spaceflight hardware
Previous experience as Director of Engineering
Experience scaling from a small to medium-sized company
Experience scaling hardware from R&D to Production
Current Secret or TS/SCI clearance
