Under the general direction of the Managing Executive Direction of Development (MEDOD) Medical Programs, the position designs, develops, implements, and administers fundraising strategies. Identifies new donor prospects through research of background information on potential donors and directs the development of materials and marketing plan. Directs the organizing of related fundraising programs/events; cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gift donor prospects.

The Associate Director of Development is a skilled fundraising professional with in-depth understanding of the field, who independently performs the full range of responsibilities of a university development officer, analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope, and determines solutions. Using advanced fundraising concepts, plans, organizes, and directs fundraising campaigns which include multiple components. The results of the incumbent's efforts have major impact on overall program goals and assignments and are typically at the "major gifts" level, including building and managing a well-documented and active portfolio of individuals, planned gifts, corporations, and foundations, and focusses on donors capable of giving $50K or more.

The incumbent maintains a portfolio of donor prospects that include influential, complex, and highly rated doors. Has authority to make decisions regarding program design and development strategies. Position works with the MEDOD to develop programs and other external relation functions, such as events as deemed appropriate, volunteers' coordination, and development of marketing materials.

The incumbent is expected to achieve annual growth in major gift giving. Including the oversight and management of all fundraising administration, and managing a prospect portfolio of 75-120 active, high-capacity donors, and prospects. The incumbent will develop and manage close working relationships with leadership, faculty, staff, volunteers, grateful patients, and donors, and is responsible for developing their leadership and fundraising skills through involvement and engagement

Minimum Qualifications

Skilled professional frontline fundraising experience, as demonstrated by 2 or more years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience; or equivalent transferrable professional experience including strategic relationship development and portfolio management; or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Professional knowledge of and experience with development and fundraising techniques, including prospect identification research, evaluation of historic gift data, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship. Experience in major gifts prospect portfolio management as a frontline fundraiser, including knowledge of proven cultivation/solicitation techniques for gifts at all dollar levels with identified success in major gift fundraising.

Demonstrated success soliciting and securing significant philanthropic gifts. Successful track record developing strategic relationships with individuals, grateful patients, corporations, and foundations.

Political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies, including donors and volunteers, to develop collaborative working relationships needed to accomplish organizational goals.

Related experience conceiving, writing and editing fundraising presentations, case statements, proposals and grants for corporations, foundations and individuals for support of program priorities. Expert written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate will have 3+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in development and fundraising programs, preferably in the field of health sciences and/or higher education.

Knowledge of the health system including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure is preferred. Or experience working within a healthcare or academic hospital space.

Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc. Strong professional ethics, discretion, and judgment.

Awareness, knowledge, and skill in applying diversity, equity and inclusion to one's work. A profound belief in the value of a diverse and safe workforce and a commitment to achieve this goal through collaboration and team building, working cooperatively with a diverse group of department and campus constituencies.

Department Description

Development & Alumni Relations (DEVAR) provides leadership in building enduring public trust, understanding, and support for UC Davis and its mission of teaching, research, and public service. DEVAR provides leadership, coordination and support services to help the university meet its mission of research, teaching and service by building philanthropic support and executing approved fundraising programs that support the university's highest priorities and initiatives.

Position Information

Salary or Pay Range: Departmental Budgeted Salary is up to $100,000/yr., commensurate with experience.

Full Salary Scale for a Fundraiser 4 is $95,900 to $189,900
