Salary Range

$194,000.00 - $252,000.00

What’s the role?

We are looking for an experienced Group Product Manager to join our Search team! You will lead a dedicated cross-functional team to build products that intuitively understand what a buyer is looking for, and can match them with the most relevant items from our inventory of 127M items listed by 6.7M small businesses. This is a product challenge unlike any other: you’ll lead the team that owns the technology and algorithms that span the semantic gap between how buyers and sellers think. You will also work closely with our Search UX teams to power a seamless front-end user experience.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Product, Search In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Given the importance of the role to the business we’re looking for a product leader who can drive impact immediately. An ideal candidate has a proven track record in the Search, Ads, or Recommendations ML domains and has demonstrated the ability to mentor and empower high performing teams and individuals. To give you a taste of the problems you’ll solve at Etsy in your first year: set a new strategy for search relevance, foster the collaboration vital for ML-powered experiences, and drive alignment for this critical area.

Search is a multi-billion dollar product and the heartbeat for our marketplace. It has consistently been one of the highest value producing divisions at Etsy. We apply the latest techniques in machine learning, natural language processing, LLMs, information retrieval, and optimization techniques to improve our search relevance at the scale of Etsy production traffic while meeting latency SLAs. You will collaborate with Product leaders, Engineering leaders, as well as steward teams responsible for both innovation and growth.

What does the day-to-day look like?

Provide operational and strategic leadership for the Search machine learning teams.

Manage a highly skilled and engaged team of PMs and invest in their growth.

Build and maintain a roadmap of high-impact customer-centric projects, all aimed at advancing our ability to show buyers the perfect items for their search mission.

Develop relationships with other leaders in Search and across the company to set the direction of Etsy’s search ML product.

Define methods and metrics for identifying success and failure while ensuring the team is clear on their objectives

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

Experience managing consumer product areas that account for a material portion of the business, including influencing executive teams.

Led teams of between 3-6 squads that work on sophisticated engineering systems, including machine learning.

A proven track record of product coaching skills and success developing the careers of product managers.

Crafting strategic alignment with cross-functional partners and adjacent teams.

Confidence when participating in very technical conversations. You have the ability to drive clear decisions even when all parties don’t agree.

Crisply communicate the technical details of your product to those outside of your team, including bridging Search ML and Search Experience to produce an excellent user experience.
