Policy Analyst/Research Analyst—Fiscal and Tax Policy—Economic Policy Program

We believe that bipartisanship combines the best ideas of both parties to create even better, lasting policy. BPC is seeking a Policy Analyst or Research Analyst to contribute to the Economic Policy Program’s work on fiscal and tax policy, primarily focusing on developing and promoting fiscally responsible policies in Congress and preparing policymakers and the public for the 2025 “fiscal cliff,” which includes the expiration of trillions of dollars in tax policies at the end of the 2025 calendar year. A major pillar of this effort will be a multifaceted, national policy, communications, and advocacy initiative to raise the issue of fiscal responsibility with the public and policymakers. Given BPC’s wide range of policy expertise, the Policy Analyst/Research Analyst will work closely with other BPC policy teams (Energy, Health, Housing, Human Capital) to make the case that America’s unsustainable fiscal trajectory is relevant to everyday Americans and critical sectors of the economy. Qualifications Strong interest in federal tax policy, budget policy, and economic policy writ large.

Excellent writing skills and the ability to clearly and concisely summarize large amounts of information.

Ability to create informative graphs and charts using Excel and/or other platforms.

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and external stakeholders in writing and in person.

Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience OR relevant master’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience (for Policy Analyst).

Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience OR relevant master’s degree (for Research Analyst).

Preferred: Background in research and policy analysis related to federal tax policy, budget policy, and economic policy.

Ability to easily research, access, manipulate, and analyze data from government and other sources, especially the Congressional Budget Office, Joint Committee on Taxation, and Internal Revenue Service.

Experience writing for public audiences and for congressional staff (for Policy Analyst).

Experience managing diverse coalitions of stakeholders (for Policy Analyst).

Responsibilities Conduct background research on various economic and fiscal policy topics and summarize findings in internal briefs and other formats.

Analyze and visualize data to develop and support research products and policy proposals.

Write short pieces including explainers, one-pagers, and blog posts to comment on or explain current events related to the portfolio.

Track policy developments on Capitol Hill and across the executive branch, including attending related hearings or public/private events on behalf of BPC.

Contribute to substantive meetings with external stakeholders including policy experts and congressional staff. Take and synthesize detailed notes to inform project action items (for Policy Analyst).

Work with team leadership and BPC’s development team to draft grant proposals and grant reports (for Policy Analyst).

Collaborate with communications, advocacy, and events teams to promote and advance the team’s work externally (for Policy Analyst).

Assist in the management of external and internal coalitions on relevant policy matters (for Policy Analyst).

The salary range for the Research Analyst position is $58,000 – $68,000 and for the Policy Analyst position is $68,000 – $83,000. BPC benefits include 403(b) matching contributions of up to 7% of salary in addition to a non-elective contribution of 2% of salary (both after 90 days of employment); 15 vacation days, 2 personal days, 15 sick days, and 12 holidays per year; education benefits up to $5,250 per year after one year of employment; $2,000 for professional development expenses after six months of employment; Metro benefits of up to $130 per month; and generous health insurance coverage with a Flexible Spending Plan. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. BPC does not sponsor employment visas.
