Summary : The Director of Development is responsible for managing the day-to-day functions of the City Park Development Department. This role reports to the CDO and is responsible for overseeing all fundraising areas including annual giving, membership programs, planned giving, corporate giving, institutional giving, and fundraising events. The role also provides feedback and support to marketing and communications. In addition, the Director of Development manages development staff, with direct reports of Fundraising Events Manager and Membership Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the CDO, creates and implements fundraising plans and strategies for Development, with direct accountability for goals set forth in the annual budget, strategic plan, and capital campaigns

Develop and manage the daily functions and procedures of the Development Department, including prospect identification and cultivation, annual giving, planned giving, corporate giving, governmental grant writing, institutional giving, and restricted giving to specified projects, while managing staff responsibly

Support the CDO in developing and executing capital campaigns including material development, prospect list, and campaign collateral

Ensure fundraising material copy is up-to-date, compelling and has a clear call to action

Build an internal and external culture of philanthropy that leads to increased revenues and a diverse community support for City Park Conservancy

With CDO, set and communicate annual departmental and individual goals and metrics, ensuring that all fundraising areas meet or exceed annual revenue goals

Develop and manage the budget of the Development department in coordination with the CDO and submit PO’s in a timely manner

Oversee and manage funding opportunities through foundational and corporate grants, including writing and reporting.

Lead and collaborate with staff to develop effective donor stewardship and solicitation strategies with a cohesive moves management structure

Coordinate with the Marketing and Communication Manager to ensure that fundraising materials, printed and e-communications, and donor recognition are delivered in an appropriate and timely manner while adhering to City Park Conservancy communications standards

Oversee and coordinate activities also to include directing the use of volunteers, including Board members, to open doors to donor prospects, set and attend meetings with such prospects, assist volunteers in the solicitation of such prospects, and provide donor stewardship to such prospects following the successful receipt of a gift

With the CDO, serve as staff to board committees; support the fundraising activities of Board members and other volunteers as appropriate

Oversee the development and implementation of events in support of City Park Conservancy’s fundraising goals and objectives, including fundraising, donor recognition, and cultivation

Oversee and manage the implementation of gift policies to ensure donor intent, recognition, and fulfillment is met on behalf of City Park Conservancy

Develop and implement a donor stewardship program to further cultivate, educate, and communicate with current donors regarding their past gifts and potential future gifts

Supervise the maintenance, efficiency, and accuracy of the database of all donor and gift records, provision of pledge reminders, gift receipts, transmittal letters and acknowledgements for all gifts, as well as maintaining accurate records for contacting donors

Serve as one of the Park’s spokespersons as called upon

As directed by the CDO, perform other duties as assigned to support the overall department and organization

Qualifications and Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree preferred

A minimum of 7 years progressive development experience in a nonprofit required

Proven experience in the cultivation and successful solicitation of gifts of six and seven figure gifts required

Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers to achieve the organization’s objectives

Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Experience with direct mail programs for solicitation of funds

Demonstrated experience with management of staff, budgets, and attainment and updating of relevant management skills

Demonstrated success in setting fundraising goals, developing relevant strategies, and achieving fundraising success

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated success in building, leading, and managing a complex team of staff, colleagues, and volunteers to accomplish fundraising goals

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, communicate with, and establish rapport with members of a diverse population

Demonstrated ability to receive and hold confidential information and establish trust with staff, colleagues, donors, and volunteers

Demonstrated ability to organize complex information, use confidential data base systems containing donor information and apply reason and analytical skills to fulfillment of goals

Does not hold outside personal or business interests that might conflict with the goals and objectives of City Park without the explicit approval of the CPO
