The Position
The Foundation Relations Manager is responsible for advancing foundation and government grant income and grant prospecting, strategies, and proposals. The Foundation Relations Manager contributes to the overall success of the organization by matching organizational priorities and needs with foundation and government funding opportunities.

MANAGEMENT Manage day-to-day implementation and support for key activities, including coordination with other teams implementing complementary activities.

Ensure data and insights to identify, understand and articulate the key inputs and metrics that tell the story of the organization/team strategy and its progress.
Build in appropriate feedback loops to see if we are meeting key milestones and if the impact planned is being felt across the organization.
INFLUENCE & REPRESENTATION Represent OHS, as requested, at key stakeholder and sectorial meetings or engagements.
Communicate effectively to executive, and other stakeholder groups to ensure they are informed and able to actively engage with, and about, foundation donors.
Liaise with and maintain productive relationships with all stakeholders, including other departments, and donors; build mutually rewarding professional relationships inside OHS at all levels.
Leverage our best practices externally and grow OHS' reputation as a leader in this space by identifying opportunities to share the process and results in the broader animal welfare sector through presentations, whitepapers, blogs, etc.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Leads the advancement of foundation prospect giving, strategies, and proposals by managing and collaborating with leadership on the research, identification, cultivation, and solicitation of foundations and government funders.
Manages a portfolio of foundation donors and prospects.
Researches and identifies opportunities for new funding and works both independently and in concert with the major gifts team, executive team, program managers, and other colleagues to implement and drive strategies of the direct solicitation of foundation and government support.
Collaborates with Director, Foundation and Corporate to create, implement and drive short- and long-term grant strategies that address institutional priorities.
Manages the funding calendar, writes all grants for OHS, and translates OHS priorities into proposal narrative and budgets.
Engages with staff across all areas of the organization to understand fundraising priorities, OHS programs and services, and translate that information into compelling narratives.
Manages administrative, financial, and institutional oversight of grants to provide post-award stewardship and proactively ensures that deliverables, metrics, and requirements are met.
Uses moves management to cultivate relationships with key foundation staff, identify board member connections and potential relationships, and executes solicitation plans for qualified foundations.
Consistently achieves established annual fundraising targets.
Assists in developing annual budget projections and goals and reports on monthly revenue and expenses.

Qualifications

Demonstrated success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, government entities, and/or and partner agencies.
Experience managing a grants calendar, cultivating and stewarding relationships with foundation program managers and/or foundation board members, and ensuring, that grant reporting and all grant deliverables and requirements are met.
Ability to research, analyze, and interpret data and trends, then translate conclusions into actionable and realistic goals.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to contribute forward-thinking strategies and creative ideas to increase program revenue.
Highly organized, self-managed, and independent; able to balance multiple priorities and stakeholders and meet deadlines.
Superior oral and written communication skills; able to write compelling copy that appeals to a diverse giving demographic.
Ability to interact professionally with funders on the telephone, in person, and through electronic communication.
Experience with constituent relationship management systems (preferably Salesforce)
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Able to maintain proprietary and confidential records according to OHS Standards of Conduct.
Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills to effectively communicate with technical, internal, and external audiences, leveraging a variety of communication channels.
Must be aware of key functional dependencies across the organization and identify solutions when needed.
CFRE certification or GPC preferred.
Government grant experience preferred.
Able to maintain a valid Oregon or Washington license preferred.
Work Environment Conditions & Physical Requirements
This position interacts and collaborates will all levels of the organization, including OHS staff, executive team members, donors, general-public, external vendors, volunteers, and supporters. Contact and communication are carried out through face-to-face, telephone, and digital interactions. Excellent customer service skills are essential to success. Communication must be clear, understandable, professional, and respectful in all circumstances.
Working Conditions Work is performed at home or in an office and medical center/animal shelter environment.
Travel between the two campuses may be required.
Working at both campuses may be required.
Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
Animal contact and related injuries may occur.
Noise exposure varies and sometimes includes uncontrolled barking and other animal vocalizations.
Pace of work is active and demanding, requiring a high degree of multitasking and ability to adapt to changing priorities while managing concurrent projects/tasks to completion.
Contact with angry or emotional people may occur.
Physical Requirements Occasional moving of items up to 25 lbs.
Occasional lifting and moving of inanimate objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Occasional pushing and pulling of carted items weighing up to 100 lbs.
Occasional moving items above shoulder level.

Occasional climbing and bending.
Must be able to lift, move, restrain, guide, or manage an animal weighing up to 150 lbs. on a leash on an occasional basis.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
Ability to respond and perform life saving techniques in an emergency.
