VP of Engineering & Material Strategy
Job Summary
Our client is looking for a visionary and strategic VP of Engineering to lead and grow their engineering team and oversee the development, procurement and manufacture of innovative and high-quality products. The VP of Engineering will report to the President and work closely with the other leaders of the company to align the engineering vision with the business goals and customer needs. The VP of Engineering will be responsible for fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation within the engineering team and across the organization.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Define and execute the engineering strategy and roadmap for multiple product lines, ensuring alignment with the company vision and objectives.
Lead, mentor, and develop the current and growing engineering team, providing clear direction, feedback, and career growth opportunities.
Lead and mentor the Director of Strategic Materials Planning and team to make sure our vendors and the inventory we purchase are meeting our quality standards and meet all specifications and features for a fair price.
Oversee the writing and updating of the documentation and instructions for the manufacturing processes, including the materials, equipment, and specifications needed for each product.
Establish and maintain high standards of engineering quality, performance, and reliability, implementing best practices and processes.
Collaborate with the sales, marketing, and manufacturing teams to understand customer requirements, deliver product features, and resolve issues.
Work with the Vice President of Manufacturing to review current processes and look for ways to improve manufacturing efficiency, ensuring they are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with safety and quality standards.
Prioritize R&D Projects. Oversee the design and development of new products and enhancements, ensuring they meet the specifications, functionality, and manufacturability criteria.
Manage the engineering budget, resources, and timelines, ensuring projects are completed on time and within scope.
Oversee the measuring, auditing, review and negotiation to maintain vendor performance and relationships.
Evaluate and adopt new technologies, tools, and methodologies that can improve engineering and manufacturing efficiency, productivity, and quality.
Represent the engineering team and communicate the engineering vision and status to internal and external stakeholders, including the leadership team and customers.
Qualifications & Skills Engineering degree required, preferably in mechanical, electrical, or software engineering.
10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or management role.
Proven track record of leading and scaling engineering teams and delivering successful products, preferably in the fabricated metal / welding space.
Strong technical background and expertise in 3D CAD software and project management.
Experience in metal fabrication and welding processes a plus.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence and inspire others.
Entrepreneurial mindset, with a bias towards action and innovation.
Passionate about customer satisfaction and product quality.
dvanced use of Microsoft Excel (make calculations, organize data, etc), Outlook, and Word.
Salesforce experience a plus.
ERP Experience a plus.
