Software Engineering Manager
Boston, MA, United States
CareAcademy is seeking a full-time Engineering Manager to lead and coach our engineers as they build new web-based applications that are the core of our company - a SaaS platform that trains caregivers so they’re empowered to deliver extraordinary care. This is a player-coach role where you will need to be hands-on technically. If you enjoy helping a high-performance team solve problems and build sophisticated products and applications that actually improve people’s lives, come join us!
This role will manage a team of 5-8 software engineers, and together with a Product Manager, will lead one of our squads to deliver a product our customers value, and in return, that helps us achieve our business objectives. The manager will be responsible for career growth and performance management of the engineers on their team, managing team processes, hiring, collaborating with other functions and external vendors, and being accountable for the technical design, quality and scalability of our products. This role fosters a culture of excellence within the team by creating a psychologically safe environment that encourages innovation and maintains accountability to our customers in every release.
If you have the expert technical, management, and cross-team collaboration abilities to lead the engineering team to strong delivery outcomes, we want to hear from you!
What you’ll do:
Manage, lead, and grow a team of full-stack software engineers working across CareAcademy’s products and applications.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, marketing, customer success, and other cross-functional partners to plan work and roadmaps to deliver value to our customers and help us achieve our goals.
Partner with senior engineers and technical leads to shape and guide the technical direction of your team.
Work with your team to drive continuous improvement in development best practices, quality, and process.
Participate in technical design and code reviews, help lead technical discussions, and occasionally contribute code.
Manage team resourcing needs, growth, recruiting plans, and goals.
Maintain a knowledgeable opinion of modern tools, frameworks, etc., for possible usage or introduction at CareAcademy.
Own your team’s software and infrastructure from design to production, including 3rd-party integrations and vendor relationships.
We’re looking for someone with:
Multiple years of hands-on software engineering experience, including multiple years experience managing and mentoring software engineers.
Expertise in developing customer-facing web apps or mobile apps (or both!). We use technologies such as Ruby on Rails, React, Typescript, and Node, but experience with all those technologies is certainly not required.
A track record of leading the execution of large projects and identifying and removing roadblocks that stand in the way.
Experience with developing world-class engineers and teams into high-performing engineering teams that ship quality software.
Exceptional communication skills to collaborate with colleagues from across the company with the end result of translating business and product goals into impactful engineering goals and priorities.
A knack for bringing structure to ambiguity and the decision-making skills and flexibility to address changing needs quickly and unblock teams.
An innate drive to stay current on technology trends and continuously improve team and company performance by incorporating modern engineering and tech best practices.
Knowledge about agile methodologies, iterative product software development, CI/CD, and writing unit and end-to-end tests to ship high-quality software.
A strong sense of personal accountability and ownership for meeting commitments.
