The Manager of Transportation impacts students’ lives by:
Overseeing all student transportation activities - including dispatching, routing, operating, and tracking all school vehicles - to ensure students are transported safely and on time.
Creating a culture of safety for the student transportation team. This includes setting a high bar for safety and holding team members accountable.
Managing bus drivers includes screening and hiring, clearly communicating expectations and work conditions, monitoring performance, and providing job-related feedback.
Planning and coordinating bus driver training, including bus operations, safety procedures, accident procedures, and incident reporting.
Developing route schedules and assigning staff for daily runs and for all extra-curricular activities, class trips, and athletic events.
Serving as the transportation contact person for all drivers, families, and school staff.
Working with the school’s special education and behavior management teams to ensure students’ special needs related to transportation are met.
Updating student home addresses and communicating with drivers and school staff regarding updated bus routes.
Monitoring and documenting staff credentials, including driving record/license status, and reporting to the DFO as required.
Monitoring compliance with relevant city and state regulations related to student transportation.
Monitoring preventative maintenance and needed repairs of vehicles.
Responding to student transportation vehicle accidents, including going to the accident scene, conducting internal investigations, assisting students and staff, and obtaining and maintaining police reports and related documentation.
Serving as a substitute bus driver when needed.
Performing other duties as assigned.
