Director of Safety and Security

Responsibilities:

The Director of Safety and Security reports to the Senior Vice President. The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for establishing a global security program that protects employees and company assets. This position will be responsible for safeguarding employees and assets by establishing measures to protect and reduce risk. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the Organizations safety and security operations as well as development and implementation of global security policies and procedures. He/she will also be responsible for the management of critical tools and resources that support the protection of employees and company assets. The Director of Safety and Security will be the operational head of the Organizational Resilience Program, including direct responsibility for Emergency Response, Crisis Management, and Business Continuity. The Director of Safety and Security will be the primary responder when an emergency occurs in the Organizations world.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Employee Protection and Safety

Develop and implement programs and standard operating procedures to protect employees and create safe and compliant work environments. This includes the development and implementation of a global travel safety program and country specific standard operating procedures.

Develop and implement a training component to educate and empower employees to take ownership of their safety while operating and traveling in increasingly challenging worldwide locations.

Responsible for monitoring global risk and providing timely support for employees who may require assistance in their home country or while traveling.

Provide effective, on the ground, assistance in every location that the Organization conducts business worldwide.

Asset Protection

Safeguard the Organization by establishing measures to protect and reduce risk to physical, informational, financial, and other assets.

Conduct risk assessments on the Organizations global assets in order to deploy resources effectively and efficiently.

Investigate incidents that cause damages or losses to any the Organizations physical assets around the world.

Collaborate with the Facilities Team to proactively recommend physical security measures during the development phase of any future assets.

Organizational Resilience

Manage the Organizations Crisis Management and Business Continuity program development and implementation. Lead the response effort to employee safety concerns, business disruptions, natural disasters, or man-made events.

Serve as Facilitator for Emergency Response, Crisis Management, and Business Continuity when an actual event occurs. Mobilize Crisis Management Structure to respond to any event.

Be pro-active in preparing for possible events based on predictive and pro-active intelligence.

Manage the business relationship with International SOS (ISOS) and Control Risks Group (CRG).

Manage the Emergency Notification tool and process – Send Word Now. Focus on accounting for the safety and security of employee in an impact zone.

Manage the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Specific Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Serves at the primary contact/responder when there is an emergency, disaster, or potential for such an event. This includes mobilizing the proper Crisis Management structure/teams based on the incident and incident management in coordination with the assigned Crisis Management Teams.

Facilitates coordination of Emergency Response, Crisis Management, and Business Continuity Teams during an emergency event/incident. Manage vendor/provider emergency response where appropriate.

Responsible for overall safety and security of the Organizations employees within the context of their dependents, families, and communities.

Be pro-active and predictive about the risks that the Organization faces operating in 36 countries, many with medium to high risks for employees and travelers.

Lead the Emergency Response preparations globally, including facilitation of Emergency Response Teams (safety front-line).

Manage the Security Operations Center (SOC) as well as the intelligence predictive measures in place.

Identify goals and objectives consistent with corporate strategic plan and define metrics to measure overall performance.

Lead network of external security service vendors/providers.

Develop security and crisis management programs to support the safety and well-being of employees and physical assets.

Oversee incident response planning, including investigation of safety concerns, security breaches, or illegal activity.

Direct, coordinate or conduct sensitive investigations.

Partner with other departments to develop comprehensive business continuity plans

Provide leadership for the Crisis Management Program – including recruiting, training, and development of materials.

Assist assessment of third party relationships and activities to protect people, assets and reputation.

Maintain relationships with law enforcement and related governmental agencies worldwide.

Facilitate Organizational Resilience Steering Committee

Brief executive management on the status of security matters

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervisory responsibilities may be assigned as applicable

Qualifications: Key competencies:

Demonstrated security expertise and experience that can translate to being Global Security Director for an organization operating in 36 countries.

Strong leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to lead transformational change.

Executive presence with exceptional communications and relationship-building skills, effective at building trust.

Demonstrated success advocating new and creative ideas, methods and approaches, and integrating best practices.

Solid project management skills with ability to achieve results in a matrix-managed organization.

Strong intellect with a balance of strategic thinking and strong analytical skills

Willingness to travel globally

Education and/or Experience

A Bachelor’s degree is required and advanced degrees in business preferred.

Minimum of 10 years private sector security experience with at least 5 years leadership experience. International related experience in international setting and/or prior international fieldwork and/or travel is preferred.
