DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Modeling our core values to lead with service, respect all people, build community, and deliver results the Director of Finance will play a pivotal leadership role in managing the financial operations of Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas County (HHSKKC). Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this position requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of accounting, transaction processing, and financial reporting.

The Director will collaborate closely with construction project managers, retail store operators, repair program managers, operating executives, and external stakeholders to ensure financial stability, compliance, and capacity of the organization.

Essential Functions

Financial management:

·      Oversee all aspects of financial accounting, including cash, accounts payable, grants and pledges receivable, payroll, mortgages, leases, financing, loans, and the general ledger.

·      Oversee all aspects of program accounting, including construction project, home services and sales/resales, repairs/reimbursement, and retail stores sales/inventory accounting.

·      Monitor construction project in progress (CIP) in collaboration with Operations, including job budgets, actual expenses, and adherence to funder guidelines and reporting requirements.

·      Monitor restrictions for support and revenue streams in collaboration with Resource Development, ensuring proper reflection in net assets and entity cash balances.

·      Monitor retail store finances and operations in collaboration with the Chief Retail Officer, including departmental reporting, budget variances, and capital investments.

·      Prepare, analyze, and review financial statements, including statements of activities, statements of financial position, statements of cash flow, and department financial reports.

·      Support working capital, funder, financer, and banking relationships.

·      Keep the senior leadership team informed of the organization’s financial status.

Budgeting and forecasting:

·      Coordinate loading of annual budgets into reporting systems with the FP&A Analyst.

·      Coordinate tracking of construction project budgets with the Grants Manager.

·      Assist in long-term financial planning and strategic decision-making.

Financial reporting, risk management, and compliance:

·      Ensure accurate and timely reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

·      Coordinate and lead the annual audit process for the organization and benefit plans.

·      Coordinate and lead the annual Form 990 reporting process and corresponding federal grant reporting, such as Schedule of Expenditures for Federal Awards (SEFA).

·      Liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors.

·      Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.

·      Maintain compliance with tax regulations, industry standards, and contractual obligations.

·      Prepare and submit required financial reports to regulatory agencies.

·      Assess financial risks and propose mitigation strategies.

·      Monitor insurance coverage and claims.

·      Collaborate with legal counsel on contract reviews and risk assessments.

Grants and funding management:

·      Coordinate grants recognition and classification within the Chart of Accounts.

·      Collaborate with program managers to align financial reporting with grant requirements.

Finance information technology (IT):

·      Maintain system access and controls for key financial systems.

·      Coordinate with Director of IT on oversight for IT systems, infrastructure, and security.

·      Ensure efficient and effective use of technology to support organizational goals.

Team and people leadership

·      Lead a team responsible for accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.

·      Manage administrative processes related to staffing, policies, and procedures.

·      Collaborate with the CFO on talent acquisition and retention strategies.

·      Foster a positive work environment and promote professional development.

·      Lead by example, demonstrating integrity, ethics, and commitment to excellence.

Finance continuous improvement:

·      Maintain finance process maps and documents to understand data integrations and flows, manual and automated controls, and employee level of effort towards finance activities.

·      Regularly review finance processes for continuous improvement opportunities, including use of technology in collaboration with the Director of IT.

·      Be a subject matter expert and resource to non-Finance departments on process improvement methodologies and approaches.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position may supervise staff.

Pay

For the selected candidate who meets the minimum requirements for the role and has 0-2 years of direct, relevant experience serving in a Director or equivalent role and/or at this level, pay for this position is $107,120 to $110,000 yearly, with the potential to go to $120,515 with time and demonstrated success in the role.

For the selected candidate who exceeds the minimum requirements for the role and has 2-4 years of direct, relevant experience serving in a Director or equivalent role and/or at this level, pay for this position is $120,515 to $125,000 yearly, with the potential to go to $133,910 with time and demonstrated success in the role.

For the selected candidate who exceeds the minimum requirements for the role and has 4-7 years of direct, relevant experience serving in a Director or equivalent role and/or at this level, pay for this position is $133,910 to $140,000 yearly, with the potential to go to $147,306 with time and demonstrated success in the role.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Minimum Education, Experience and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related.

Minimum of 4 years of experience in controllership, finance, or accounting.

Proficiency in construction-specific software (e.g., Procore, Full Clarity, Sage) desired.

Experience with Sage 100 Construction, NetSuite ERP, Paycom, and Raisers Edge software preferred.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction industry accounting principles.

Proven experience in financial management and accounting.

Construction industry experience preferred.

Non-profit experience is highly desirable.

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams

Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.

Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of meeting deadlines.

Leadership Skills : A natural leader who communicates clearly, thinks rationally, and has a complete understanding of finances in a not-for-profit business. This person is able to effectively communicate across multiple departments and create consensus for practices and policies that may bridge across wide audiences.

Language Skills: Read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports and legal documents; respond to common inquiries or complaints; present information to top management, including board of directors, board committees, bankers, and funders. Ability to persuade.

Math Skills : Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, averages/medians and percentages/percentiles. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

Reasoning Ability : Define problems, collect, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Distinguishes between relevant and irrelevant information to make logical decisions. Provides solutions to individuals and company problems.

Computer Skills : Proficiency with computer usage especially Financial/Accounting ERP software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

·      Must be at least 18 and have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

·      CPA or Certified Management Accountant certification preferred
