Development Associate – Young Voices – Washington, DC

Young Voices’ mission is to cultivate the next generation of thought leaders for liberty in policy, journalism, and academia. Founded in 2013, Young Voices serves as copy editor, agent, and mentor to a roster of 100+ pro-liberty communicators through our cornerstone Contributor Program every year. Young Voices achieves a level of media output that surpasses organizations several times our size, placing 150+ media hits per month in print, radio, and TV. Our writers (whom we call “contributors”) are making the principled case for liberty in mainstream outlets read by millions of persuadable readers. Young Voices is also the host organization for the Dissident Project, a speakers bureau for U.S. immigrants who escaped tyranny to tell their stories before high school classrooms across the country. This past school year, Dissident held 50+ talks before 10,000+ students.

About the Role

Young Voices is rapidly growing our programs and influence, and a Development Associate will be able to help our fundraising efforts keep pace. The Development Associate will assist Executive Director Casey Given in fundraising and will be regularly interacting with nonprofits and donors on behalf of Young Voices, so strong communication skills are a must.

This position is full-time and in-person, based out of Young Voices’ downtown Washington, DC office (with flexibility for 2 days of remote work per week).

Responsibilities

Work with the Executive Director to implement an integrated fundraising strategy, as well as annual development plans to enlist the partnership of supporters

Write and design donor communications which may include email newsletters, reports, direct mail, grant proposals, and thank you correspondence

Assist with events for Young Voices’ stakeholders, which includes our writers, alumni, donors, and partners

Pursue collaborative policy partnerships and projects with other nonprofits and foundations in return for donations (e.g. fellowships, policy briefings)

Requirements

0-3+ years of experience in development, fundraising, or donor research, including internship experience

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Passion for and alignment with the mission of Young Voices is critical

Ability to travel up to 15%

Confidentiality and discretion

Strong organizational and multitasking skills

Experience with wealth screening tools and CRM software is a plus
