Role & Responsibility
Work with the preconstruction team to develop conceptual, budget, and GMP estimates
Prepare accurate quality takeoffs, including material and equipment pricing
Lead subcontractor solicitation efforts and conduct job walks as appropriate
Meet proposal and bid schedules
Complete analysis of competitive subcontractor proposals
Define and clarify project scopes of work, schedules, and procurement requirements
Successfully conduct competitive lump sum bids
Assist project staff with estimates after bid award
Conduct thorough and accurate project constructability reviews
Conduct value engineering analysis to define cost-efficient alternatives to the desired project scope
Key Success Metrics:
Lead efforts to complete bids that accurately address the company's risk and project scope
Successfully bid projects with a profitable capture ratio in excess of 20%
Contribute to the growth and mentorship of other estimating team members
Help standardize, maintain, and improve the database for current cost estimate information
In order to be considered for this position, you should possess the following hard skills:
With a solid foundation of 10 years of construction estimating experience, including at least 5 years of specialized work in public school projects or similar endeavors, you're well-equipped to tackle the complex challenges of estimating in the public works sector.
Your ability to handle all pre-construction, estimating, and bidding functions for projects up to $60 million demonstrates your expertise and confidence in navigating the intricate world of construction estimates.
As a leader, you possess the skills to lead lump sum competitive bid pursuits, ensuring that projects are approached with precision and strategic thinking. You're the expert who can dissect and review architectural and structural drawings, MEP specifications, and all other relevant documents with ease, ensuring compliance with bidding documents.
Your proficiency in quantity take-offs, data analysis, and estimating trend studies for both self-perform and subcontractor scopes reflects your commitment to delivering accurate and well-informed estimates.
Understanding the factors that influence construction costs and subcontractor risk is second nature to you, and you have an advanced grasp of unit costs. You actively manage post-estimate and job buyout knowledge, maintaining a unit cost database to guide future estimates.
Your familiarity with integrated project delivery methods and the ability to create comprehensive project schedules make you an invaluable asset to our team.
Your knowledge spans across all building construction trades, and whether it's complex spreadsheets, database programs, or on-screen takeoff tools, you handle them with ease.
