Cybersecurity Analyst

Purpose of Position/Summary:
The Cybersecurity Analyst serves as a vital component to the ever-growing technical environment of Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS). The Cybersecurity Analyst will be primarily responsible for protecting IPS' network and systems from cyber attacks. This involves researching upcoming IT trends, creating contingency plans, reviewing suspicious activities, reporting security breaches, and assisting in educating the rest of the organization on security preventative measures within and beyond the district. Additionally, the Cybersecurity Analyst will also develop systems of prevention, developing additional response plans that the organization will implement in case of a successful attack. The Cybersecurity analyst needs to stay informed about the weapons utilized by bad actors to mount a strong defense for IPS.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Being knowledgeable about the cybersecurity threatscape (and keeping up to date with the security industry).
Understand and evaluate security threats to your organization and perform a risk analysis of threats.
Investigate any breaches and other security incidents that occur.
Document incidents and generate reports for team members and key staff.
Work with the security team to help develop security policies and implement them.
Help to deliver cybersecurity awareness training.
Assist in performing security assessments to identify, assess and mitigate unnecessary risk.
Identifies security exposures that currently exist and/or is emerging, and that create potential threats to the infrastructure, systems and data.
Contribute, as a team member, to all other risk, security, and privacy initiatives and services as appropriate .
Research and evaluate current or emerging security technologies to support organizational cyber security objectives.
Assist or help conduct investigations into information security incidents, assist in root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions, and recommend mitigation techniques.
Support inclusion of applicable compliance, quality and process standards within project planning and execution.
Assist with evaluating the security controls and practices across the company; identify, analyze and mitigate risks as appropriate.
Professionally exercises discretion and independent judgment in day-to-day work.
Consults with Cybersecurity Manager to understand objectives regarding processes and recommend changes.
May train end-users on best practices on an off-site location during absence of Cybersecurity Manager.
Install some updates on cyber technology and peripheral equipment.
Cross Functional Collaboration & Team Supports: Maintain history logs of issues within IT Operations for future-tense problem resolutions.
Collaborate across functional teams to compile logs for auditing purposes.
Maintain clear and timely communication relative to all areas of assigned responsibility.
Assist with log trends and utilization standard changes within IT Operations.
Assist with DLP (Data Loss Prevention) acknowledgments and investigations. (Cyber and IT Operations)
Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
This role provides privileged access to the inner workings of Indianapolis Public Schools technology and to highly sensitive information and data. The successful candidate will be discrete, high-energy, agile-minded, strategic, proactive, a direct communicator, highly-organized and committed to the vision and values of Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS). In addition, the following standards will generally define the successful incumbent:
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in computer science, information security or cybersecurity. 2+ years of relevant experience. Will consider candidates without a bachelor's degree if they have an Associate's degree and have shown/demonstrated having 2+ additional years of equivalent, relevant experience in the tools, systems, and initiatives leveraged. Professional certification (e.g. Security+, Network+) preferred but not required.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
There will be no supervisory responsibilities, nor any direct reports.
Personal Work Relationships:
The individual in this position works with a wide range of school staff, service staff, and administrators and service providers on diverse problems encountered in IPS in a moderate capacity to fulfill its duties. The individual must possess and employ a variety of personal and interpersonal skills in the discharge of the position's responsibilities. This position requires a positive attitude when dealing with all staff and constituents. Good judgment, discretion and individual initiative are necessary for the effective discharge of the position's significant responsibilities.
