Position Purpose
Aspira's Software Solutions division Principal Designer plays a pivotal role in shaping the design vision and execution for our innovative products. This position is hands-on, leading the creation of intuitive and engaging user interfaces, ensuring our software solutions meet the highest standards of usability and aesthetics. The Principal Designer oversees the design team, manages multiple projects in a dynamic environment, and collaborates closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver exceptional, user-centered designs that enhance our product offerings.
Responsibilities
Lead the design vision and strategy for the company's software products, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
Develop and maintain high-quality design standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistency and excellence across all product interfaces.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and stakeholders, to define design requirements and deliver user-centered solutions.
Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups to effectively communicate design concepts and user flows.
Conduct user research and usability testing to gather insights and validate design decisions, ensuring products meet user needs and expectations.
Mentor and guide junior designers, providing feedback and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the design team.
Oversee multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and effective prioritization of tasks.
Stay current with industry trends, tools, and technologies, and proactively apply this knowledge to enhance the company's design practices.
Advocate for the user experience throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring a seamless and engaging interaction for end-users.
Present design concepts and solutions to senior leadership and stakeholders, effectively communicating the value and impact of design on business objectives.
Champion Aspira policies and procedures, uphold product quality and reputation, and consistently adhere to compliance and relevant initiatives by preserving the confidentiality of information, safeguarding organizational assets, and acting with integrity and ethics.
Support the Solutions division by actively participating in pertinent projects and fulfilling other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
Proven experience in leading and mentoring design teams, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Exceptional ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and translate complex ideas into user-friendly design solutions.
Extensive knowledge of design tools and software, such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping tools.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate design concepts and rationale to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated experience in conducting user research and usability testing, with the ability to synthesize feedback into actionable design improvements.
A strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects, highlighting creativity, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of user-centered design principles.
Adaptability and a proactive attitude towards staying current with industry trends, tools, and best practices in design and technology.
Desired Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, User Experience Design, or other related discipline required with a Master's degree is preferred
10+ Years of Design Experience with extensive professional experience in UI/UX design
5 - 7 years' experience in a leadership or Principal Designer role within the software industry which includes a demonstrated portfolio of successful design projects, including at least 5 major projects that significantly contributed to business objectives and user satisfaction.
7 - 10 years' experience achieving a mastery of design tools Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping tools, with no less than 7 years of hands-on experience.
3 - 5 years' experience leading and mentoring design teams of 5 or more designers.
Documented experience in conducting and analyzing user research and usability testing, with at least 3 projects that led to measurable improvements in user experience.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders, with examples of at least 3 projects where collaboration led to successful product outcomes.
Evidence of participation in at least 2 professional development courses or conferences in the past 3 years
Desired Hardware and Software Competency
Mastery of industry-standard design tools such as Sketch, Figma, and Adobe Creative Suite, creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.
Expertise in creating interactive prototypes using tools like InVision, Axure, or Framer, with the ability to translate complex ideas into user-friendly interfaces.
Proficiency with web, mobile (iOS and Android), and desktop applications
Proficiency within collaboration and project management tools such as Jira, Trello, or Asana.
Professional usage of Microsoft Suites in an office setting.
