The ideal candidate will bring strong design thinking and collaboration skills for working with cross-disciplinary teams and clients, demonstrated experience delivering user-centered solutions that meet clients’ requirements and product constraints, and a can-do attitude that involves continuous learning and growth
BA/BS plus 5 years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
UX certification and background in social sciences, human-computer interaction, technology, communications, or design
Experience as a design thinking facilitator leading collaborative working sessions
Strategic thinker with a product mindset
Demonstrated experience producing UX artifacts to facilitate group alignment and inform design decisions
Ability to identify underlying issues and design practical solutions to address user needs, meet client expectations, and align with development constraints
Ability to manage competing project demands while maintaining a high attention to detail
Possess strong written, verbal, and presentation skills for team, client, and stakeholder interactions
Collaborates with diverse stakeholders and promotes principles of accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion in UX practices
Pushes work forward as needed by “managing up” or “managing across” with tact
Is intellectually curious and motivated to learn new skills, without losing sight of day-to-day responsibilities and priorities
Responsibilities Work with clients and teams to define problems, understand client motivations and user needs, and design human-centered solutions for complex business problems
Steward clients and teams through design thinking processes and advise on the research and design methods that are most appropriate for project requirements, goals, and constraints
Facilitate discovery efforts (e.g., workshops, user research, landscape analyses, heuristic evaluations) and translate findings into actionable recommendations
Develop visual artifacts (e.g., user flows, personas, journey maps, wireframes, service blueprints) to document design decisions and to move team and client collaboration forward
Maintain knowledge of evidence based UX research and design best practices, including federal web standards, the US Web Design System, and accessibility requirements
Coordinate with development teams to move designs through the development process, providing review and guidance as needed
Conduct usability testing and site audits in close collaboration with the product team before launch
Contribute to Abt’s UX practice and wider community by presenting on user-centered design to a range of internal and external audiences
