Associate Vice President, Government Relations & Public Policy

Responsibilities:

By serving as the lead advocate for Seattle Children's, identify, direct and advance Seattle Children's legislative and regulatory priorities at the city, county, state, and federal levels throughout the WAMI (Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) region. This role is responsible for implementing enterprise-wide government relations efforts in order to effectively protect, maintain and promote Seattle Children's mission, vision, and strategic priorities. Travel required.

Key responsibilities include:

Significant knowledge and experience with Local/State/Federal legislative, budget, and appropriations process

Knowledge of all aspects of the legislative and political process, and expert skill to correctly and appropriately read, interpret, understand and respond to the proposed legislation, including writing effective position statements and drafting proposed legislation

Knowledge of the principles and concepts of proactively building, cultivating and maintaining effective relationships with a broad scope of diverse external constituencies to achieve institutional goals and objectives

Provide counsel to internal leaders through a lens of current events, news and emerging political issues, to make policy decisions, pinpoint political reputational risk, and surface opportunities

Ability to develop and initiate policies/programs to increase efficiencies, improve staff productivity and assure quality best practices

Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including attentive listening skills and skills to ascertain constituency perception

Ability to coordinate activities across multiple states to ensure consistency and advance public policy strategies

Analytical and decision-making skills, sound judgment, and highly developed political acumen

Ability and discipline to work autonomously and independently without daily supervision

Strong management skills; ability to focus on strategic outcomes and effectively motivate team members

Proven track record of coalition building and working with diverse stakeholders

Ability to identify pertinent stakeholders with a vested interest in organizational strategic goals

Develop and monitor department budget; be a strong fiscal steward in all areas of responsibility

Experience providing effective oversight and leadership of department and staff

Requirements:

Required Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in in public administration, public health, policy advocacy, communications, social service administration, or related area.

Ten (10) years experience in public policy, budget analysis and advocacy with local, regional, state and/or federal government.

Strong research, analytical and strategic thinking skills; including sound judgment and decision-making skills, ability to recognize potential areas of constituency concern to effectively address, resolve and/or mitigate problems or issues.

Preferred:

Masters degree in public administration, public health, policy advocacy, communications, social service administration, or related area

Min to Max Annual Salary:

$240,000.00 - $270,000.00 /yr

Salary Information:

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.

This compensation range is specific to Seattle, positions located outside of Seattle may be compensated differently depending on various factors.
