Overview
We are looking for a candidate to lead a team of bioinformatics scientists and developers that supports the Institute for Genomic Medicine’s (IGM) efforts to become leader in pediatric genomics and precision medicine. This individual will manage technical resources, directing day-to-day operations of the Bioinformatics Research and Development team, overseeing multiple projects and reporting to leadership on progress. This is a diverse, fast-paced and team-oriented environment integrating pediatric genetics and genomics, laboratory science, bioinformatics, and clinical process data. It is expected that the individual in this position will possess strong leadership and software development abilities, enjoys solving complex problems, and has a desire to make an impact in medical research and patient care.

Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operations of the Bioinformatics Research and Development team, delivering quality work on-time, within budget and scope
Support the analytical, collaborative, and development needs of research and clinical faculty and staff.
Develop and deploy robust, novel computational approaches to data analysis for a variety of NGS protocols and related methods.
Implement and maintain best practices in coding, including code review and change/release management processes.
Develop methods to automate processing and analysis of large data sets.
Lead the utilization of advanced statistical, data mining, and machine learning approaches to identify and visualize new genomic discoveries.
Participate in the experimental design, requirement gathering, and analysis for a variety of research projects and collaborations.
Author journal publications, present at professional meetings, and help prepare grant applications.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Master’s degree or higher in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biological Sciences or related discipline.
7+ years of computational experience, with 3+ years leading team members, products, and/or projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience managing, supervising, or mentoring bioinformatics and/or computational staff.
Proven success in the design, development, and deployment of data analysis pipelines, including demonstrated expertise in software life cycle and development methodologies.
Exceptionally deep computational understanding, strong programming skills, and experience with a range of statistical tests and experimental design techniques.
Experience with Unix/Linux systems, cloud computing, containers, and automation.
Proficiency with modern NGS tools and analysis of NGS data.
Strong people and management skills to interact and collaborate with staff, colleagues, and third parties.
Ability to communicate technical details in clear and understandable business language.
Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to learn new technology quickly.
Minimum Physical Requirements:
Must be able to remain in stationary position for extended periods of time. Must be able to repeatedly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Must be able to occasionally move about inside the workspace to access objects necessary for the job (file cabinets, printers, etc.). Must be able to accurately communicate information and ideas in person and through telecommunications.
