DUIT's BDL will report directly to the President and the CEO. Candidates must be comfortable and competent in their ability to communicate with senior executives regarding all aspects of the business and opportunities we are pursuing. What You Will Get to Do:
The BDL role requires an ethical approach to winning, business acumen, technical understanding and/or education, resourcefulness to support a business development process with internal/external customer engagement, identification and analysis of new opportunities, both published and unrecognized. This individual will be responsible for securing existing work and winning new work in the Department of Defense (DoD), State of Maryland and Intelligence Community (IC) marketplace. They will be held accountable for pipeline development and qualification of new opportunities to grow revenue. The position necessitates desire and skill to develop and establish relationships between the company, strategic partners, and customers. The individual filling this role must collaborate effectively, negotiate and cooperate to achieve business goals. Additional responsibilities may include the identification and evaluation of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) targets, development of joint ventures, contract teaming arrangements and both short- and long-term campaign development. The BDL professional will be responsible for continuous monitoring of changes in competitor business models, performance, and leadership as well as the impact of those changes on the competitor’s market share.
The successful candidate supports development and execution of the operation and group strategies. This individual follows corporate processes for business development and may make recommendations for improvements to the process. The position requires working closely with the CEO, Vice President and other company representatives, staffing manager, chief of staff, capture managers; supporting the transition from opportunity identification to pursuit; supporting capture activities and working as part of a team to successfully complete contract bids and wins; developing and maintaining customer and industry call plans and establishing lasting rapport with both; communicating the organization’s core capabilities; establishing internal and external teaming; and effective efficient shepherding of new business funds. The business developer is essential to new business and must work collaboratively with the executive team and contract managers of the organization to ensure qualified opportunities meet business standards and support the overarching business strategy.
Additional responsibilities:
Developing or improving solutions for assigned opportunities; managing relationships with partners and corporate staff; participating in business planning activities, to include periodic pipeline reviews, opportunity gate reviews, win theme and discriminator workshops, business conferences, oral presentations and proposal reviews. This person is responsible for managing all the activities necessary to develop and deliver qualified opportunities to capture managers and supporting the captures through proposal and hot start activities. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of US Government contracting, contract types and procurement processes and must be team-oriented and demonstrate strong reasoning and communications skills, both oral and written.
Other Duties and Responsibilities :
Assists in the development and implementation of potential business contracts in DoD, federal, state and local governments
Initiating business prospects through cold calling, emailing, and industry networking.
Strategize how to grow contracts.
Research and write proposals related to company scope and objectives
Actively establish, develop and maintain beneficial relationships with target clients.
Prepares marketing activity reports and presents them to management.
Utilize company marketing platforms, material, etc. to establish and maintain a consistent brand recognition across all platforms, trade association meetings, and promotional events in accordance with company objectives
Meets with key clients, and maintains relationships in negotiating and closing deals
Attending company meetings and preparing reports showing potential and possible areas to expand the current client base.
Create an environment for capturing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and provide weekly reports on progress for all CRM activities
Demonstrated knowledge of effective proposal writing techniques
Effective ability to communicate orally and in written form with all levels of management, and with internal and external customers.
Professional development in proposal writing, capture management, business development and sales.
Outstanding stand-up presentation skills required, with a strong ability to build relationships.
Demonstrate the ability to anticipate and solve practical problems and resolve issues. Ability to effectively identify client/potential client needs and communicate proactive security solutions
Must have experience with using Microsoft Office software and ability to learn other software/office supply usage
Pay close attention to detail and have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly organized and motivated with strong project and time management skills, strong multi-tasker
Must have a strong work ethic, leadership skills, and a high degree of professional maturity/confidentiality

Coursework or experience in Marketing or Business preferred
Sales responsibilities in a high-volume, high-growth oriented service industry.
Must have two years or more of proposal and grant writing experience
Ability to gain internal support, operate with limited supervision and feedback, and establish solid working relationships with technical staff, line managers, and peers across the corporation
Ability to think strategically
Possess analytical presentation and problem-solving skills
