Description
As the Business Development Director, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth by building, maintaining, and strengthening relationships with various client sources such as venture capital firms, academia, incubators, law firms, company founders, and other members of the biotech community. Your primary focus will be on cultivating our existing relationships and expanding our venture capital firm base and client base within the life sciences sector.
Responsibilities
Relationship Building:
Develop and enhance venture capital firm pipeline, client pipeline and brand recognition by establishing and nurturing relationships with various client sources.
Attend industry events, conferences, and networking sessions to connect with potential clients.
Coordinate and participate in speaking events to demonstrate thought leadership.
Lead efforts to host and/or sponsor events to promote the firm.
Lead Generation and Conversion:
Identify potential new client sources, cultivate and effectively communicate our firm's story, value proposition, and advantages to convert prospects into clients.
Successfully transition new clients to internal client onboarding (launch) team.
Deal Negotiation:
Negotiate terms, pricing, and contracts with clients.
Ensure alignment between client needs and our services.
Client Retention:
Cultivate strong relationships with existing clients.
Act as a key point of contact for some clients to maintain strong relationships.
Support the monitoring of client satisfaction and collaborate closely with internal teams to address any concerns promptly.
Strategic Partnerships:
Explore partnership opportunities with other service providers in the life sciences ecosystem.
Market Research and Analysis:
Conduct market research to identify trends and implement a strategic approach to obtaining potential clients.
Analyze the competitive landscape and stay informed about industry developments.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field (Master's preferred).
10+ years of progressive experience in the life science start-up, venture, or company creation space. Knowledge of the biotech industry and relevant client sources.
Proven track record in business development, preferably within the life sciences or venture capital industry.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships at all levels.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Proactive mindset, capable of identifying and pursuing opportunities for business growth.
Exceptional negotiation and presentation skills.
Ability to travel (locally and overnight) (~15%) and to attend evening networking activities.
Strong understanding of life science industry financial operations, preferred.
