Senior Platform Engineer

Ibotta is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer, Site Reliability to join our innovative team and contribute to our mission to Make Every Purchase Rewarding. As part of the Reliability team at Ibotta, you will be enabling the engineering organization to support and scale the platform that powers our app that is used by millions of consumers. We're looking for a self-motivated engineer who has a passion for making services and infrastructure scalable, reliable, and observable. Every engineer has input into our engineering culture, our products and development processes, and will have a real impact as part of a small, nimble team.
This position is located in Denver, Colorado as a hybrid position requiring 3 days in office. The specified high value hybrid days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Candidates must live in the United States.
What you will be doing:
Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation; evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
Take initiative to identify and solve important problems, coordinating with others on cross-cutting technical solution and work closely with engineers across a number of disciplines
Influence engineering best practices to improve MTBF, MTTR, MTTF and incident response.
Identify opportunities to improve service scalability, reliability, and observability.
Partner with stakeholders to define, implement, and drive adoption of reliability standards, patterns, and practices across the entire engineering organization.
Work with product teams to identify and improve service SLIs/SLOs/SLAs.
Write tests and perform code reviews to ensure that we're shipping reliable, readable, and reusable code.
Research and implement technology solutions for a reliable, high performance, high transaction system.
Manage availability and performance monitoring for data and application layers using a variety of toolsets.
Ensure that security and compliance are first-class objects across Ibotta’s infrastructure and services.
Participate in an on-call rotation while practicing sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement.
Provide guidance and leadership to other team members on managing availability and performance of mission critical services, on building automation to prevent problem recurrence, and on building automated responses for non-exceptional service conditions.

What we are looking for:
5+ years of experience in architecture, design, implementation, and/or support of highly distributed production cloud applications.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics or a related field required.
Experience working on a single-tenant and multi-tenant systems platform with hundreds of thousands or millions of users
Solid communication skills and ability to work with stakeholders both within and outside of engineering.
Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
Deep understanding of operational concepts such as SLIs, SLAs, SLOs, and DORA metrics to measure and improve software development and delivery performance.
Proven track record of driving decisions collaboratively, resolving conflicts and ensuring follow through with exceptional verbal and written communication.
Proven experience with relevant technologies such as Typescript, Ruby on Rails, Java, Python, Javascript, Kotlin, Nodejs, etc, and data stores such as MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis, etc, and knowing when to use each
Fundamental knowledge of object-oriented software design, development and architectural principles
Deep understanding of development best practices including security, compliance, performance, optimization, reliability, cost efficiency, etc.
Deep understanding of building highly scalable, observable, and fault tolerant platforms using architectural patterns such as retries, circuit breakers, rate limiters, etc on top of horizontally scalable systems
Experience implementing architectural concepts such as microservices, serverless, event-driven, platforms, etc.
Expertise in AWS/GCloud/Azure. AWS is preferred
Proven experience with DevOps best practices and Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, etc)

Additional Details:
This position is located in Denver, CO and includes competitive pay, flexible time off, benefits package (including medical, dental, vision), Lifestyle Spending Account, 401k match, and equity. Denver office perks include paid parking, bagel Thursdays, snacks
and occasional meals.
Base compensation range: $120,000 - $160,000. This compensation range is specific to the United States labor market and may be adjusted based on actual experience.
