The Prince George's County Board of Elections is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a General Clerk , grade G12 , in the Election Operations Division .
About the Position
This is a senior-level clerical work where the incumbent may lead and train personnel. Incumbents in this position are considered an "Essential Employee," during an election cycle. The election cycle begins three (3) months prior to an election and one (1) month following the election. As an "Essential Employee," you will not be authorized to take a leave of absence and you will be required to work specified weekends and holidays. The incumbent in this position must be able to lift and carry supplies/equipment up to fifty (50) pounds and must have excellent computer, data entry and analytical skills. The incumbent must submit to and pass a criminal background check.
About the Agency
The mission of the Prince George's County Board of Elections is to promote voter education, administer an efficient voting process, maintain an accurate voter registration database, and ensure that elected officials are elected in accordance with Federal, State, and County election laws. The Board of Elections is responsible for the supervision of elections, voter registration and record keeping, and the administration of election laws in Prince George's County, in accordance with The Election Law Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland. The Board and the Election Administrator seek to provide voter registration to every County citizen who wants it.
Examples of Work
The incumbent assists county residents who desire to file for elected public offices and accepts filings from candidates. Conduct internal audits of candidate filings to ensure all documents have been properly filed.
Manages and organizes the packing of and dissemination of election supplies for judges during all elections.
Responds to verbal, written and e-mail inquiries from candidates and the public. This includes, but is not limited to: drafting correspondence to secure polling locations, responding to constituent concerns, etc.
Analyze statistical data and draft election reports for management as required.
Research voter registration applicants who may be ineligible to vote due to felony convictions.
Research and process petitions. Proofs work for quality assurance.
Assist with training coordination and Election Day polling place activities.
Assist with Election Judges supply pick-up.
Conduct election judge and student judge recruitment.
Maintains polling place database and supporting files, including polling place diagrams and prepares facility contracts.
Responsible for conducting polling place surveys and ensuring polling places meet ADA requirements.
Assist with the canvassing process and recounts.
Organizes and schedules canvassers.
Assists with post-election audits.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Must have experience at the General Clerk III level equal to the length of the probationary period; or six (6) months of experience performing diverse clerical tasks
One (1) year of education above the high school level which includes coursework in computer data entry, secretarial subjects or business administration.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY : Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.

General Plan Information:
The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.
A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.
Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent.
The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).
New employees must enroll in the County's health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.
The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.
After enrolling in the County's benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
