The Johns Hopkins Department of Radiology Science is seeking a full-time Communications Specialist . This is a hybrid position and candidates must be local to the Baltimore region. The Communications Specialist is part of the internal Department of Radiology communications team which identifies, develops, and promotes multimedia content for external and internal publication with audiences ranging from referring providers, patients, faculty and staff members, prospective faculty and staff, alumni, and more. The Radiology communications team works closely with the Johns Hopkins Medicine Marketing & Communications liaisons.

The Communications Specialist position will report to the Communications Manager and focus primarily on research and clinical content. This includes a broad range of topics ranging from the latest advancements in research and imaging technology, to changes in patient policy to educational material for specific clinical exams. This requires a close interaction with faculty members, both research and clinical, a keen eye for detail and commitment to accuracy by managing the subject matter experts’ review process. Duties will include but are not limited to the following.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for partnering with faculty subject matter experts for content highlighting research work within the Department of Radiology.

Interview, develop, write, edit, and coordinate review process for articles featuring individual faculty work, group advancements, successful grant awards, and more.

Create or source accompanying images and graphic design for written content.

Create and post social media content to highlight and publicize research.

Ensure web content remains updated by collaborating with web specialist.

Assist in the creation of material supporting clinical operations for internal and external publication.

Work closely with clinical subject matter experts to ensure accurate information is being conveyed to patients and referring providers.

Write, edit, and coordinate review process for clinical material covering patient exams, operational updates, policy changes, and educational material for both patients and referring providers.

Participate in meetings with the radiology physician liaison team and create new content based on needs from referring providers.

Maintain digital library of shared resources.

Provide support for creation of additional digital and physical resources as needed for projects ranging across the Department of Radiology.

Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field.

Two years related experience.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong writing and editing skills for a variety of applications.

Ability to produce content with both speed and accuracy.

Must be comfortable using technology, multimedia and social media tools.

Able to adhere to internal deadlines and production timelines.

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
