Job Summary

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at UCSF has been dedicated to healing, teaching, and discovering for over 60 years. From our inception in 1958 we have grown to one of the preeminent anesthesia departments in the world: providing cuttingedge therapies to patients; regularly ranking among the top 10 recipients of NIH research dollars; and, possessing an outstanding residency training program whose alumni have become national leaders in the field.

The site supervisor for our pediatric anesthesia division will make a significant impact by leading a small team of dedicated employees in ensuring the daily operations across sites function smoothly. The site supervisor will be the primary administrative oversight for the division of pediatrics within the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care. This role is made more complex due to the multiple coverage sites (SF Mission Bay, Oakland, Walnut Creek) and the differing policies and regulations governing the sites. The site supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the division across sites and facilitating the activities of the division including HR, space and facilities, equipment management, purchasing, communications, and IT. Many of the daily administrative support and executive support operations are carried out across multiple UCSF sites via the work of subordinate staff that you will support, encourage, and develop.

About you: you are self-motivated, detail-oriented, thrive in a team-focused environment where customer service is highly valued, and is scalable to the growing demands of the business. The supervisor possesses critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and business development skills. As well, you must be able to independently analyze issues, work with minimal supervision, and be exceedingly well-organized and flexible. This position communicates with all levels of leadership of the department and with internal and external UCSF stakeholders so diplomacy and tact are essential as well as excellent communication skills.

Join our team to experience a meaningful and welcoming work environment, extremely competitive benefits, and great growth opportunities; we are excited to meet you!

Department Description

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at UCSF provides outstanding patient care, promotes cutting-edge basic and clinical science research, and educates the next generation of health care providers while focusing on increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization.

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care ranks as one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine with an annual budget of $145 million. The two largest components of the annual budget are Professional Fee Income and Extramural Funds, representing 90.4% or $132 million (including ZSFG professional fees and 6.9% or $10.1 million of the annual budget respectively. Currently, the department has over 285 Faculty members, 22 Staff Physicians, 200 Staff Employees, 18 Fellows, 87 Residents, 12 Non-Faculty Academics, 7 Post Docs, 68 CRNAs and 6 Nurse Practitioners at ZSFG.

In addition to the Moffitt-Long Hospital, very active units of the department exist at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (inpatient and outpatient, including a very active trauma service), San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (inpatient and outpatient), Mt. Zion Medical Center (outpatient, including 23 hour stays and the Pain Management Center), the UCSF Orthopedic Institute and the Benioff Children's, Betty Irene Moore Women's and Bakar Cancer (NIH-designated Cancer Center) Hospitals in the Mission Bay neighborhood.

The Department now has essential roles in patient care outside of the operating rooms, with active participation in Ambulatory Care, Acute and Chronic Pain, and in the Preoperative Clinic. Over the department's fifty-plus years of existence, the department has been at the heart of modern anesthesia's explosive growth, and to this day continues to have an enormous impact on surgical practice and the management of pain. The department's research, education, and clinical care quickly earned and have maintained reputations that are the equal or better of any institution in the world. Individual members of our faculty have had a major influence on our specialty both nationally and internationally, including NIH study sections, NIH funding, FDA and Editorial Boards. Research activities within this department are integrated with and inform clinical practice. For many years, ours has been among the top departments for NIH research funding in anesthesia in the United States.
