Senior Naval Architect/Marine Engineer (Modeler)

Job Description Job Description Sayres, a distinguished leader in defense support services to the DOD, is currently seeking an experienced Senior Naval Architect/Marine Engineer (Modeler) with a current SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS in Washington, DC to support the PMS 300/325 program.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for full spectrum of engineering analyses pertaining to design and fabrication of United States Naval Ships. Duties will include design and engineering of vessel structures, stability, speed and power, propulsion and power systems, seakeeping and maneuvering, noise and vibration, and test and sea trial data. Work will be performed to ISO, ABS, and other recognized standards and industry best practices, using the most appropriate tools ranging from hand calculations to full FEA modeling and simulation. Additional scope will include production of detailed engineering reports, CAD modeling, and manufacturing coordination and support.

Works with the Design and Engineering Team to ensure products meets customer requirements, including providing drawings, calculations, and written documentation.

Designs and engineer's vessel structures including detailed analysis, 3D modeling and reporting.

Performs detailed weight estimation, stability analysis, weight tracking and reporting.

Executes performance predictions and optimizations, and propulsion system design and engineering.

Coordinates with Manufacturing to ensure cost-efficient production and resolution of manufacturing issues.

Develops designs and concepts to improve manufacturability and reduce cost.

Analysis of test and sea trial data.

Reviews and understands specifications.

Ensures all engineering documentation including drawings, parts lists, layouts and schematics comply with contract and industry standards.

Collaborate on research and development of new product and platform offerings and product enhancement initiatives.

Develops templates, computer models and spreadsheet tools to simplify and standardize design and engineering processes.

Attends technical evaluation meetings and briefing with customers as required.

Attends technical industry meetings, conferences and symposia as required.

Maintains current knowledge of best industry and engineering practices through continuing education.

Skills Required:

Must be knowledgeable in naval architecture and marine engineering principles.

Have an up to date understanding of boat fabrication technologies.

Should be thoroughly familiar with marine systems including propulsion units.

Requires working knowledge of ABYC, USCG, ISO, and Class Society rules and regulations.

Technical understanding and use of computer modeling applications such as Rhino, AutoCAD, Solid Edge, FEA software and MS Office. Other computer analytics programming language knowledge desired but not required.

Familiar with 3DPM

Strong organization and interpersonal skills required to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking team environment.

Strong technical ability and understanding of manufacturing systems, lean manufacturing principles, material flow systems.

Ability to creatively problem solve in a complex environment.

Ability to work effectively and achieve success under pressure and within deadlines.

Required Experience & Education:

BS degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.

7 years related experience.

Active Secret Clearance or ability to obtain.

Preferred Experience

10+ Years related experience.

PE certification is a plus.

Familiarization with United States Naval Ships
