About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to join the Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice. This senior legal executive will be a key member of the executive leadership team, providing strategic and legal guidance to ensure the successful implementation of racial justice initiatives. The role involves overseeing the legal operations of the office, offering confidential legal advice, and ensuring compliance with statutory guidelines, particularly those related to the recent racial justice amendments to the city charter. The successful candidate will work closely with the policy team, city leadership, and external partners, and will be instrumental in shaping the office's strategies for advancing equity through structural government reform.Applicants for the General Counsel position should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 3 years at a senior level, and a strong commitment to advancing equity through legal and structural reform. The role requires a legal background, with a law degree and a license to practice law in the state of New York. Experience in public administration, public policy, or other relevant fields is beneficial. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of providing legal counsel to senior leaders, experience in supervisory legal roles, and a deep understanding of the legal and administrative framework of the city.
