Laser Lab Manager/Engineer

SUMMARY
Candidate will assemble, operate, repair, and debug electro-optical automated test systems. Skills in visual inspection, detection of unexpected DUT behavior, and familiarity with benchtop electrical test equipment is highly desirable. Experience with Class IV open-beam laser safety and optomechanical best practices preferred. Candidate will be expected to operate in a highly independent environment, identify their own knowledge gaps, and learn pro-actively. Candidate will be responsible for running an entire opto-electronics laboratory to support cutting edge research of components for ARVR displays. Candidate will receive design of experiment and be expected to build opto-mechanical and opto-electrical systems as specified. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong background in laser systems and laboratory safety protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assemble, operate, repair and debug electro-optical automated test systems
Perform visual inspection and detection of unexpected device under test (DUT) behavior
Run an entire opto-electronics laboratory to support cutting edge research of components for ARVR displays
Build opto-mechanical and opto-electrical systems as specified based on design of experiment
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the laser lab
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols
Maintain inventory of lab supplies and materials
REQUIRED SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics, or related field
3yrs experience operating automated test systems for electrical or optical hardware
Novice/Intermediate proficiency using Python, LabView, or MATLAB for instrument control
Experience with Class IV open-beam laser safety and optomechanical best practices
Skilled fine motor technique for gluing & soldering sub-millimeter parts under a stereomicroscope
Desire to work in a laboratory environment, collecting data and running experiments
Has personally built an automated physics or manufacturing test system within the last 5 years
Proven experience working in a laser lab environment
In-depth knowledge of laser safety protocols and regulations
Familiarity with laser systems, optics, and related equipment
Familiarity with benchtop electrical test equipment
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Effective communication skills
Basic understanding of data analysis and statistical methods
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks associated with laboratory maintenance
Ability to work on-site in Redmond, WA 100% of the time.
